Ex Senator kicked off JetBlue

Why didn't the people just move to the back? That would have ticked me off too. I wouldn't have ranted, raved and tried to rally, but he had a good reason to be annoyed.

I agree. I never had a problem when I had to move passengers. I simply would make a PA "folks we're not going anywhere until we get volunteers to move please", something to that effect. This flight was supposed to depart at 1pm something and didn't depart until 8pm? Something else must have been going on too.

Morons, acting like their rights are being taken away. I some days would like to move out of this country but there probably isn't any where better to go. Not sure Canada is better.

The days when the police carried their nightsticks and would use them were better times. A few swings of the stick and the unwashed masses suddenly found better things to do.

I've never understood people. I was on a flight and they asked in the first few rows for a couple of volunteers to move aft. Everybody sat there like lumps.

Of course, these days you probably paid extra for that seat. United at least refunded the seat fees they could deliver on the the spot. It took me THREE FREAKING MONTHS and the assistance of the credit card company to get American to refund my exit row seat fees after they intentionally screwed an airbus full of passengers at SNA.

I have been on a few flights where passengers were asked to move to the rear. I promptly got up and moved stating to others near me that the next option will be to get off the plane. Usually a couple folks will take the hint and move with me.

Of course I am just a little over the standard FAA weight.....:(

That's not a problem. This is a balance problem. We had zones on our plane. Zone 1 was the front few rows (forget which ones) and we use the FAA average weights (170 I think it was). So if we computed say 450 lbs needs to be moved in zone 1 to get it in balance, we would move 2.6 passengers (ok 3) out of zone 1 and be on our way.

Why don't they just put all of the fat ****s (myself included) in the back of the plane and all of the hippy millennials to the front. Unless you pony up for 1st class!! They should ask your weight when you buy your ticket and assign accordingly. Then add a few pounds to each reported weight for those that lie.

I always love asking people how much they weigh when planning a long leg with multiple passengers. They give me a number, if I am close, I let them know the difference between living and crashing is an honest weight, a new higher number comes out :) Maybe that's why my friends wives don't come with us much

Some years ago I flew a lot, and when checking in I would tell the gate agent if they needed to move someone to first class for weight and balance I would happily volunteer. This actually worked a few times. The agent would laugh and give me a free upgrade. It usually happened on late flights that were half empty.

I understand balance and zones.

In Alaska we used 190 for men in winter, 180 in summer. 10 pounds less for women each season. And if a scale is not available, add 15 pounds to stated weight.

Really funny when my wife is asked her weight. She always says 95, but she is only 85.

I once had to pick up a passenger (not physically) that claimed 400 pounds. He wanted to sit in the back, where it is easier to get in and out, but I had to have this guy up front. Weight was a little under max, but I re-arranged baggage to make everything work. I would bet any amount that he was closer to 450. It took 2 seat belt extenders to get the belt fastened.

Like I said, I am above the FAA standard so probably one less person would have to move, but it is nice to be thought of as under 200 pounds....

Like you didn't plan it that way! :goofy:

My one buddy told me that he didn't know weight was an issue in my little plane. He then explained that his golf clubs were always coming and his wife was more than welcome to join via car or commercial if she put us over the limit

I had to move a hefty guy from the third row upfront with me on a C310 under FAR 135 to balance it out. Hate to ask it as the poor person is probably embarrassed about it. Should have done it before boarding them up though. Live and learn.

I like it! The man has priorities.

Never heard of a woman ADDING weight!

She is 39. And quite a unique lady..!!!

I tell her that since she is now an American citizen she can eat as much as she wants to, but then she talks to me in some strange language and I am pretty sure she is not telling me to have a great day....

My lady is 40. Married her 14 years ago and her weight has only varied by a pound or two in all that time. I however cannot say the same. :(

Haha no doubt! Reminds me of my Italian grandparents who'd switch to Italian when grammom was chewing some arse.

How do they do that..??? My wife actually eats more than I do, but what she eats, I would have to hold my nose to eat it....

I can't say I am the same weight as when we got married...

You didn't answer the question. :D

My wife tips the scale just a few pounds over yours. She weighs in at around 89. Whenever she breaks 90, I make her go on a diet. ;) She is from southern China.
Honestly, I don't know what my wife weighs. Her mother was a stick and her sister is one too. She doesn't Iike being skinny, or being reminded she is, and her weight is a secret.

I wish I knew how they do it. We actually eat the same food for the most part and she eats more than I do pound for pound. Not complaining though. If only one of us is going to get fat, I'm glad it is me and not her.

This is exactly the problem. The airlines mostly all charge extra for "normal legroom" seating in the front, after they shrunk it in the back. Jet Blue as well.

The Jet Blue site also states that if you pay for an Even More Space seat and select another seat after the fact, there is no refund.

And per your experience, good luck getting your money back if your try to argue otherwise.

If you're gonna charge me extra to sit in the front just so my knees aren't crushed against the next seatback, you're going to have to pay up to move me back. That game works both ways.

That's not true. The terms state EvenMore charges are refunded if Jet Blue can't accommodate you or even if you cancel or change the flight. If you chose a different seat (i.e. upgrade to Sweet seats or whatever) voluntarily, you lose.

That's not how I read it for changes on a non-reaccomodated flight, but whatever. I don't fly Jet Blue, and don't know how they would manage a change that occurs on a flight outside of their electronic seat assignment system, vs a booked change in flights at the gate. My guess however, would say it would be difficult to get after the fact. YMMV.

"Are Even More Space charges refundable?
Currently, all Even More Space charges are refunded to the original form of payment should you need to change or cancel your flight. Charges are also refunded if JetBlue cancels your flight due to an operational disruption and cannot seat you in an Even More Space seat on your reaccommodated flight. However, all charges are forfeited if you paid for an Even More Space seat and later select a seat other than an Even More Space seat, or if you do not show up for your flight and have a pre-reserved Even More Space seat."

My take away is that just because you are no longer a senator, there is no reason that you still can't act like a selfrightous pompous arse.

Maybe he should have just sat there with the rest of the sheeple.

My take, based only on the article:

Delayed 6 hrs, unknown reasons.
Finally board.
Cap axes for 10 volunteers to move to the back.
Former Sen complains that Cap needs to grow a pair and pick the "volunteers" himself.
Former Senator gets to walk.
Cap now needs 9 volunteers.

I wonder what they did to get the CG back in range. Vouchers or did the crew and the front cabin do a literal staring contest before the crew timed out?

Effing airline travel i tell ya. It went from a relatively copacetic affair to a re enactment of the fall of saigon on every single g-d flight. You know, for a commodity that supposedly got de regulated everybody acts like if i dont get on this one flight im getting left behind for the north vietnamese to send me to the death camps in the countryside. Of course, one look at refundable fare pricing tells you everything about the social dynamics of this g-d unbecoming mode of travel.
