FORANE's post above reminds me as to why many of the kids around here are born with 12 fingers, they need the spares.
The thump from a large mortar shell's pressure wave propagates well through an airframe.
Felt (and heard) that while circling above a decent commercial display a few years ago, I was at least 500ft above and a good distance away laterally, and it still felt like a big boot kicked the airplane's butt.
