Love this thread!!! I can finally contribute. Here is the view from my Zenith CH750 STOL that I finally started flying this summer after 3.5 years of building! Don't think there is much out there that gives a view like this! :D Lovin' my STOL!!!!

Congratulations on finishing your build!! That's a good pace you were on!

Thanks,

Pace was OK, this kit could easily be done in a year, but I took time off when I got sick of building. I went a bit nuts on the panel too so that took a few more months to wire up as well. Damn things like the job, wife and kid always seemed to get in the way of quality build time... :D

Okay, so it's not a flying picture -- but it's nearly as exciting. For those flying to the island and staying at Amelia's Landing Hotel, we have great news! If you don't want to park your aircraft outside in the salt air, hotel guests now have the option to park their aircraft in the hotel's private hangar at nearby (9 nautical miles away) McCampbell Airport (TFP).

Although it's not perfect (ideally, such a hangar would be located at KRAS), this finally addresses a long-term need for transient aircraft hangar space. Since many fly-in hotel guests rent a car -- and the only rental cars are located near TFP, anyway -- this should work well for many of our fly-in guests.

Call Amelia's Landing Hotel at 361-749-5572, from 9 AM - 11 PM for more information. Ask for Jay or Mary.

And, yep, that's me nearly killing myself, mounting the hotel sign over the hangar door earlier today. :yikes:

Here's another pic of our hangar, taken last night. This shows the new 240 volt, 400 watt metal halide lights ablaze. They were not fun to put up, in the South Texas heat, but I got tired of not being able to see what I was doing after the sun went down.

Did a day and a half trip two days ago from NJ down to FL to see Southeast Aero's operation as I'm very interested in picking up an Extra 300/L in the not too distant future, here are a few pics of me getting there and two clips from when we took up the 330LX, along with the route. I'll post some pics from the trip down after I get back from the air show today.

Nice pics and video! Any idea why it says "AOPA" on the side of that Extra?

(I don't remember them giving away an Extra, and the only time I've seen their logo on a plane has been on their sweepstakes planes.)

Anytime I use a ladder my son (22) reminds me that ladders are the most common reason for men over 50 to visit the emergency room. I ignore him.

It's Patty Wagstaff's personal plane, I believe, and probably just her effort to show support for the AOPA.

waiting for a ride from the relatives... nice spot in the shade.

Great formation cross country flight today for brunch with friends from Torrance and March Air Reserve Base.

Flew up as #2 in a 5 ship, cross unders, close trail, echelon turns, overhead pattern and landing out and back - great learning experience with super smooth air on the way up in the morning, and 108 degrees and bumpy on the way back.

Great times with great friends!

Handsome line-up, 2 CJ-6's, 2 Yak-52's, a Yak-50, 2 T-34's and an RV-4 in total. Our 5-ship from Gillespie had 2 Yak-52's, a Super CJ-6, a T-34 and a Yak-50 - truly dissimilar training.

Some air-to-air shots from my GIB and our Lead's GIB

From my GIB in Left Echelon, making a right turn, we are -2 in a 5-ship

I am out of position in this Left Echelon (1/2 plane length too far aft or 'sucked') but I like the shot anyway

may sound like the stupid question but i was trying to upload a photo but it keeps showing up sideways in a small thumbnail. how do i get it to appear larger like the rest of your guys' photos?

Well, the rotation would need to be done before you upload it. The way I get the image to show up in the text vs just the attachment thumbnail is to copy the filename link after the upload is finished, then add that as an image to the post. so, you have to post it twice sort of. Upload attachment, then take that attachment's url and add as an image. There should be an easier way, but thats the only way i know.

You see how hunched over I am? I don't actually have a hunchback, but I was afraid to lean back too far!

I hate ladders, and spend way too much time on them.

Given the hundreds of hours I've spent on ladders, towers and trees I'm probably a little too cavalier. But definitely stay within your comfort zone. The problem isn't that we fall and get hurt, it's that it takes so much longer to heal these days.

We flew to North Fox Island (6Y3) yesterday. The Island lays in Lake Michigan, about 23 NM from the main land... :D

Brought a few friends up for a coastal scenic flight of Maine but it was unfortunately a lot more hazy than anticipated.

One passenger did get this good shot of the Samoset Resort in Rockport, ME. Now if only we had thought to bring some clubs...

I flew down to Hood River for their annual fly-in. A great time was had by all. There were some spectacular planes in attendance! Over 360+ aircraft on the field at one time.

Dang, awesome pix. I've never heard of this fly-in, and 350+ airplanes? That's fantastic.

What's the airport identifier? Mary and I are starting to build "the Ultimate Cross-Country Flightplan" that will hit every major fly-in in the U.S. in one giant, months-long flight -- sounds like we will have to add this one!

Terror or excitement??
