Nice deal, I61 is not far from my home airport and I stop in there pretty often to walk around a bit with my dog.

Don't approach it from the south at dusk as I disturbed a herd of deer eating in the corn field this past spring. It was a close call as one deer decided to chase the plane. It turned into a T&G as I lifted the wing over him. Learned a lesson to always fly over first to clear the area.

So far I’ve only camped there for their mid-sept fly-in. Haven’t seen any wildlife on those weekends….

Of course while I look at your pictures I am sitting here eating oatmeal...plain, no sugar...

Just my opinion, but I always thought the best brisket and sausage was in Elgin, just a short drive from Austin.

We tried Franklin's bbq today. Waited in line for 4.5 hrs. Met a ton of cool people from allover the country whike waiting. The brisket and ribs were the best I've ever had.

Terry black’s beef rib….do it. Trust me. Beef ‘gasm.

15.3 hours on the engine. 1328 NM trip. 2 days. 5 states. Amazing Texas bbq(waited 5 hrs in line at Franklin's. Met some very cool people. Many friendshipsmade). Authentic Louisiana Cajun food. Fried chicken from Gus's world famous chicken. Such an awesome family time. I love aviation.

I was flying with the family from Memphis the other day. Filed for 5000 which was pretty bumpy with GS of 95-100. Asked for 7000 and got it. At 7000ft my GS was 55-60 in the c172. Hmmmm, decisions decisions. Went back to 5000 and just dealt with the bumps.

ha ha.
reminds me of a time driving home form work one day when i was heavy into my instrument rating training...or maybe it was just after the checkride.... much foggier than in your picture...could barely see past the hood.... I was fighting the urge to go head down, but every time I glanced down I couldn't find the attitude indicator or the DG. It was a crazy hard urge to fight.

I love E85, but we can't even get it around here lol. Closest station is an hour away
I loved the theory, until I looked at the value
e85 is great for making horsepower, not so much for fuel efficiency lol.
How do you figure?
As far as I know there is less energy in a gallon of ethanol than there is in a gallon of good old gasoline.

I used to have a Silverado that was rated for up to E85. I never found a source for it, but when they started selling ethanol free at stations around here I did some experimentation and proved the theory that MPG is better with gas than it is with standard "up to 10% ethanol"
And after doing a little math, I saw that the pricing structure doesn't offset the loss and I also clued into the scam about how they snuck it up onto people....and aren't exactly clear as to how much ethanol is in the gasoline. If they would have just dumped 10% on us all at once everyone even half way looking would have seen a noticeable drop in economy and the prices they charge for it doesn't offset that loss. Ethanol is a total rip-off as far as I can tell....

How do you figure?
E85 has an octane over 100, so even though the energy is lower per gallon, you can crank the compression/boost to the moon and make lots of power.... If you tune the engine to specifically burn e85, or have a variable boost controller.

Ethanol is used in auto gas for several reasons. It is a cheap octane enhancer, allowing cheaper, less refined gas to make the grade. Previously we used tetraethyl lead for this purpose, and we know the issues with that.

It is also an oxygenate which helps reduce emissions. Previously MTBE was used for this purpose, but it was found to be highly toxic and persistent in the environment. Ethanol is pretty safe... Ask anyone at rough river.

Ethanol gets a lot of hate, but it really is a pretty good solution, although not without downsides. Everything is a tradeoff though.
