Yes, they're my usual source. I actually live a little over an hour's drive from their warehouse and have used their pickup option a time or two.

20yrs ago you could get Phillips XC by the case at the local Sam's Club. After that I would pick up oil at the local distributor, right at the warehouse. Then about 10yrs ago that got more difficult.

I now get a case from the local mechanics shop who buys it by the pallet. One time he said he saves on shipping that way and could offer the lower price, but recently his charge started to compete with the "one case at a time + shipping" at almost $100/case.

That’s what I’ve always done. I used to be able to buy it by the case from the local oil guy but their sales volumes were so low they quit carrying it. Now I get it from one a couple of towns away and they deliver it to the airport for me when they’re out and about.

I’ve always been perplexed why people order garden variety oils like this and pay to have it shipped.

Because some of us don't live near distributors. I do have a local Shell distributor and they are more expensive (and less responsive) than the OP's internet distributor, which is who I use.

Where do your local maintenance shops get their bulk oil from?
 
I recently bought a 55 gal drum from airplaneoil.com Way cheaper than any other option and a fast, pleasant transaction. That should keep me sufficiently lubed for a year or two.
 
Figure out where local auto shops buy their bulk oil. I get my cases of Phillips XC at the same distributor who sells me drums of Rotella T6 for the farm shop.
