The FAA is allowing clearances to be sent direct to "popular" EFBs (Jep and FF). If you have that synced to your GPS, that confirms your clearance and loads your flight plan without a bunch of button punching.

Seems like a good idea? What am I missing?

I don’t know if you are missing anything. “Popular” EFBs is for the initial limited testing stage.

It was announced at Oshkosh, but I haven't heard any discussion about it. Not sure what there is to discuss, but this is POA so I figured someone could tell me why it was bad.

Sounds like a poor man’s CPDLC. It’s about time.

From what I’ve seen, it’s more like PDC. Actuall it is a pre-departure clearance. You are on the ground. Clearance information but not the release.

Nothing enroute. It just uses what you have - an EFB and a data connection, without requiring additional equipment. At least for the time being, long enroute amendments is the same issue as before.

It's live at a few airports here in Houston. I might head over to Sugarland later this month and test it out. It's so freaking hot right it probably won't happen.

goes live early 2027 across the US. I'm looking forward to that happening. My home drone is pretty easy to get a clearance, but I've been places that the clearance frequency is actually busy.

It’s unlikely this option will be offered other than GP and FF after the test phase due to cost of modifying the EFBs to provide it. I don’t see why this would not be available through a Leidos account in addition to the EFBs, but I believe the FAA wants to end Leidos service.

Is there a list of airports it is available at?
