Cheap Citation about to come on the market

A very nice looking plane...... And a REALLY dumb pilot...:mad2::mad2:..

And to top it off... I bet it really screwed up the flow into and out of that airport for a while...

That probably isn't too bad. Obviously no damage to the engines, just have to repair the flaps and re-do the underside, then get her back up in the air.

bah. that'll buff right out.

(com'mon, someone had to say it)

From the title I thought Cessna was releasing a single engine jet to compete with the Cirrus Vision.

I should write headlines for online news sites.

Don't remember any maint facility on Stella Maris ,last time I was there. Going to be a costly fix.

If you fly a retract type aircraft, their are two types of pilots those who have and those who are about to land with the wheels up.:nono:

I've never much liked statements like that. Plenty of professional pilots run through their entire flying career without a gearup. Plenty of tailwheel pilots never ground loop...

Do we know if it was a mistake, or simply a mechanical malfunction?

If malfunction I'm thinking they could have chosen a better place to put it in.

Third option is over-insured hull value.:rofl:

Don't think it's totaled though... Unless the engines are run out.

Agreed....

if the motors are not hurt ,then sling it up on the gear, get a ferry permit and fly it back to Miami...

Which I bet has already happened..

Sling it up with what piece of equipment lol? Most likely they'll bring a set of airbags to put under the wings to lift it.

Airbags would work too.. but my guess somewhere on Stella Maris is a construction forklift that can handle a few thousand pounds and they would have straps on the island too.. Airbags would need to be flown /boated in....

This gear up was several days ago and you can bet they have got the runway cleared by now.. With the revenue that airport brings in the locals would have taken a tractor and dragged it off by now......:yikes:.

That's only because they retired first. Give 'em a couple more careers worth of flight time and then let's see! ;)

I don't know how Citations are setup, but it must take real concentration to ignore the buzzers and lights telling you not to do that which you are about to do.

There is a gear horn switch located next to the gear handle that will silence the horn, works well, sometimes too well. :mad2: That's the only warning I recall, but it's pretty obvious when it goes off. Some have an additional switch located on the pilot side control wheel. It resets itself if you advance the throttles to a certain % power, it's used mainly for low power descents. :D

Might as well set it on fire because it is totalled. Engines probably aren't even worth much.

Model 501 Citation I/SP, with SP referring to its certified single-pilot capability. The aircraft was first delivered in early 1977, and a total of 312 aircraft were produced, and production also ended in 1985"

I wish someone would gear up a jet close to me and have it totaled.. I could REALLY a use biz jet for a wind indicator for my private airport...

I am partial to Lears but any brand would do...;)

I could probably hook you up. We have a Lear 35A freshly repainted, already gutted interior, engines removed, with the nacells installed and fake fan disks in the engine inlets. I don't think it's for sale but as the saying goes, for the right price....

This is the ship prior to its retirement in 2013 2009. ~12,500 hours and 10,000 landings.

There is a Lear of some description at FTY with no engines that has been sitting on the ramp for at least 5 years, it has or had a GNS 430 in it. I heard they owed the FBO $10K, there may be a lienholder as well, but it's just sitting.:dunno:

I think GOOD I SP's can be had for $250-400K, so it wouldn't take much damage to total one. The insurance company pays the owner and sells the salvage for parts, depending on the engine times, they have some value. No one is overhauling those things now, just buying servicable used ones to replace any that break or need O/H.:D

I called the FBO in Stella Maris (Hawkline Aviation) The guy said they pulled the plan off the runway the same day of the accident. Airport is open.

The last old Citation Phase 5 I participated in was not fun with interior stuff brittle and falling apart. Seemed like every time I reached for something a wire broke or pulled out of a connector.

Sounds/looks more like insurance claim(I will resist using the word fraud).
