Cheap Bo

And he says

Ba ha ha ha

Yeah, that's going to happen.
Hah, exactly. I can't think of a 6 seat light twin that'd be worth less than that... Even as scrap, I can't think of one worth less than double that. Maybe he means he'll toss in some cash?

$18K is basically the parts value for the airplane - assuming some of the parts are not worn out. (If an 88" Beech 215 prop, the prop is worth about $10K).

I'm typically pessimistic, but I figure most of these old Bonanzas are worth around $15k in parts if you can get rid of everything of value. This particular airplane has a Hartzell prop if the pictures are correct, which the value of the whole Hartzell kit is the majority of the $15k. Since the airplane suffered a prop strike recently, there is a reasonable chance it is an MV prop, which is the most easily supported prop for the early Bonanzas.

The rest of the plane is worth whatever someone will give you for it. If the control surfaces are good, you're better off.

It's the sad truth about these old Bonanzas, they aren't worth much. They'd be a good airplane for someone to buy and build time in and scrap once their time has been built.

Cheap Beechcrap,, there is no such thing.

Yea... If I had a grumpy old A&P like Tom that was a little closer, then I would have got the old Fairchild my uncle was trying to get me to buy. (My uncle is another grumpy old A&P with a lot of interesting projects.)

Unfortunately I'm stuck with a bunch of younger A&Ps that know a little more about old bonanzas than old Fairchilds.

About $25K will get you a nice copy with old radios.
Crap radios in this one. #2 comm is probably illegal.

It's clearly a Hartzell in the pictures. Probably the one with a couple of onerous and repetitive ADs.

What's to know about rag and tube? J3s are rag and tube, are we scared of them too?

I took a quick look on barnstormers and binned the number of bonanza listings by price:
25k-50k:21
50k-75k:11
75k-100k:13
100k-125k:4
125k-150k:3

I used to think about buying an old Bonanza and a 90-hp Champ, and hanging out a shingle to teach initial CFIs.

Huge difference between my 4 seat -35 V-Tail and a 6 seat TN'd A36...
