Cheap Bo

Wow! At that price I'd check it out but wouldn't expect much.

Wonder how long it's been out of annual? Think at that price might be stretching the good ratings.

First, to say anything negative about an old bo will send you directly to aviation hell. They are great machines. To buy one because it is "cheap" will send you directly to financial hell.

Recommendation: let someone else bring it back into annual.

If you are as mentally challenged as I am, then at least get that prop checked. Don't care which one it is, but either choice has problems.

Or you can get the STC to drop in a 470. Only 30-40k

But with all this negativity, I can confirm mine is not for sale.

Still cheaper than a lot of post Gear ups.
Last flight I see on flight aware is 2009

Pfft. Not an issue IF repaired properly. Likely better off than an SR that landed under a chute.

But, get that prop (and now engine) checked.

This just opens up soooo many questions. Did the Craig's List seller buy it from salvage and is trying to flip it? Are the Craig's List photos current or prior to the gear up? Why would someone repair the gear up damage, but not have the airplane in annual?

Or is this some Craig's List murderer who wants to kill pilots who don't fly airplanes with chutes???

So I am totally with you on the murder thing.
Also I notice some inconsistencies

IN the salvage letter it notes the TT as 5148.3 TTSN 727.4 TSMOH and Moderate hail damage
IN the craigslist add, he lists lite hail damage and TT 5171 TSMOH as 930

So the engine got 200 more hours on it but the plane only gained ~20

This does lead me to believe there is no plane, only murder.

So if I were interested... I'd go check it out in person. Go and have a look at it. If it looks okay to you (which I doubt at that price but let's say by some miracle it does), then the next step is to get someone knowledgeable to inspect and give you a good estimate of what the cost would be to bring it to annual. This is probably going to cost a couple of thousand to do properly... You will have to manage this very carefully. Be on top of the inspection and bail at any point if you are no longer feeling comfortable.

Um.., new (ish) engine. Hopefully the logs confirm someone sprung for one of the E225s on Trade a plane. If not , I'm on the kill a pilot theory.

Bet they ran out of cash trying to restore it.

First, the E-225 is not a bad engine, but for overhaul parts it's getting long in the tooth. If it's got the Hartzell prop in it, there are some onerous ADs.

They omitted telling about the gear up as shown here:

http://www.avclaims.com/N52DF Photos.htm

Further, any seller who is a reprehensible scum to put false information and keyword spams in their craislist ad is probably not to be trusted about ANYTHING.

And he says

Might trade for a 6 seat light twin + cash

Ba ha ha ha

Yeah, that's going to happen.

There's a link in that ad for more photos, it takes one to photobucket. I downloaded a couple and they are dated Feb 25th. So, it appears that the gear up damaged was fixed??

It was apparently fixed, but you want to go beyond appearances. I'd want to know what shape the engine is in after that sudden stoppage. This isn't a oops I taxied across the runway light type thing.

hmmmmmm

I don't think it makes any difference whether the prop strikes a taxiway light or curling the tips in a gear up. I wouldn't fly behind that engine until its torn down and inspected...and even then there is only so much that can be done to check for damage to the crank and internals, so there is still a residual risk.

If the damage has indeed been repaired properly seems to me the airplane should command a better price than asking? I'm with 6PC, skip and move on.

If it flys, selling a 6 place twin for under 18k is crazy.

I agree that anything that damages the blades can potentially cause internal damage, but this is way more substantial. Laughable was the fact he claims 960 SMOH but fails to mention that those hours almost certainly include a major engine event (the plane was listed as salvage in 2011 and apparently not actually sold until late 2012). Doubful they put 960 hours on it subsequently.

By the way, his #1 comm radio is most likely illegal to transmit with (you can upgrade them to the required specs, but I would suspect that it wasn't done, even if it were done, it's still a 360 channel radio).

Really? That's the Bo you went with?

I'm beginning to think the monkey you and sac are into sharing isn't actually a monkey.

NTTAWWT

He didn't specify which way the cash was going. I assumed he meant he'd provide the crappy bo plus some cash for a 6 seat twin. If not... hahahahah!

You have a point

Cheap Bo
Oxymoron.

Meh, price and quality don't always go hand a hand.
Lots of expensive turds out there
Some deals to be had too

Like a "cheap BMW"
Actually, I own one of those.

$2000 323i. Runs pretty nicely. A few annoying issues like the exterior door trim popping out, a blown water pump, a couple of leaks, and one wheel bearing (all taken care of). Real high mileage, but it's pretty solid.

Not sure how he did it but that the new owner actually did get it to Houston. Maybe it really flies and he got a ferry permit?
But I wonder why he's selling it so cheaply after buying it from MS. If this is a scam (looks like from the CL posting), he should put at least a $50k price tag on it.

Well, flying it illegally comes to mind.

Do you know what old Bonanzas are worth? The price looks about right or maybe even a little high for an out of annual old Bonanza to me.

About $25K will get you a nice copy with old radios. Add $$s for any good avionics (e.g. a GNS430 or STEC AP). This would be for -35 through about a C35 or so.

I've even seen "interesting" M35s for $60K or so - again with old radios, but a reasonable number of hours on a 470.

$18K is basically the parts value for the airplane - assuming some of the parts are not worn out. (If an 88" Beech 215 prop, the prop is worth about $10K).

YMMV.
