It opened today. According to Foreflight pilot-controlled-lighting and REIL are out of service but no other NOTAMs.

FlightAware shows a bunch of flights there today.

Airport in the Sky to Reopen May 3

We are pleased to announce that Airport in the Sky, with its newly-repaired runway at ACE Clearwater Airfield, will open to the public at 3 p.m. on Friday, May 3.

This reopening marks the culmination of an innovative group effort to enhance the experience at Catalina Island’s only airport. Through a unique partnership between the Conservancy and the Department of Defense, a total of nearly 200 Marines and Seabees were deployed to Catalina Island over a three-month period to replace the main runway’s asphalt with concrete as training for future missions. The Runway Repair Project was conducted as an Innovative Readiness Training (IRT) project through the Department of Defense.

We look forward to seeing you in the skies over Catalina soon!

We made our decision to not go tomorrow.

They're planning over 100 planes in attendance, 11am-4pm window, and taking Noon-1pm for an airshow.

I guess I'm just not a monster-crowds person, and at Catalina, 100 planes is far exceeding my comfort level with the event.

Here's the email I received yesterday, for your perusal.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------

The Catalina Island Conservancy is pleased to have you to join us for the Runway Re-Opening Fly-In Event, Celebrating 60 Years of General Aviation on Saturday, May 25th.

We anticipate great event attendance with over one hundred planes to land on the newly named and repaired ACE Clearwater Airfield between the event hours of 11:00am - 4:00pm. We are also excited to announce that Southern California's Premiere Formation Flying Team, Tiger Squadron, will be flying over the Airport between noon and 1pm and have their planes on display.

Be sure to visit the Conservancy Membership booth to enter the Opportunity Drawing with great prizes including limited edition ACE Clearwater Airfield Hats, Scheyden Precision Eyewear, DC-3 Grill Lunch for 2, Wildlands Express Shuttle Packages and more!

And if you're looking to explore, the Conservancy's Education Department will be leading Airport Loop Trail Hikes at 12:30pm and 2:30pm. Be sure to sign-up at their booth to participate!

Plus the DC-3 Grill will be offering a special Throwback Menu with the original SKY BURGER, a Quarter Pound Hamburger on Pumpernickel Bread with white American cheese and mayonnaise. Served with coleslaw, baked beans, a Killer Cookie, and soft drink for $10!
