I did the swap. I also have S-Tec 60-2, and it all worked out great. I really like the logic, flow and use of the IFD. Seems so much more 'intuitive' in my mind. My 430W was in great shape and all, but I just wanted something different. Always struggled with the Garmin logic for some reason. All my systems worked great with it! Now i have a mint 430W I have to do something with, but oh well.

Did you get rid of your 430W? I would be interested if you still have it.

My understanding is that somehow Avidyne actually owns the tray design that the 430 uses, so they made their unit be able to slide in. When Garmin made their newer generation GTNs they purposely changed the form factor and made their own tray.
