I wasn't around for this and I've started wondering- I know gas rationing was a thing during this time. What was going on with GA then? Were we grounded? Plenty of avgas left and no impact? I've never heard anything about that aspect of things.

I flew my floatplane to Lake Coeur D'Alene and they wouldn't sell me gas. So I flew down to Lake Pend Oreille and bought gas from Dr. Forrest Bird.

Flying had articles on gas saving flying techniques at the time. C150s suddenly got more attention. Renting the most efficient plane for the mission at hand. I don’t think rationing was in force due to the need to remain current but it was discussed.

Long before I learned to fly, so I can't say what the impact was or wasn't with respect to flying. However, I was in college in 1973 (got married that summer), and it was a problem for cars.
