AP Use

I'd be hesitant to set DH on a altitude preselecter if that going to cause the AP to capture it. I don't want the plane to round out to capture a DH. I want to fly straight into it so I can make a decision in the proper position.

And I think this is a difference in the way different APs/FMSs opperate. With the Honeywell system we have, DH is selected on the RadAlt and the Missed Approach alitude is selected once the glideslope has been captured (assuming we are talking about precision approaches here), and it is up to th PF to click the TOGA button on the throttles to initiate the missed approach/go arround if necessary. The airplane will not capture the DH, just give us an audible cue that we are at minimums.

I'm finding procedures vary from system to system. That may be what is causing confusion in this thread. We are all used to the systems we operate, and can't quite understand how certain procedures make sense when trying to apply them to our unique system. What works for some may not work, and could have tragic consequences, for others.
