Im considering listing my 172 on ebay. Anybody familiar with pros and cons? Craigslist and facebook are moving pretty slow save for some dumb questions and ridiculous low ball offers. Might try barnstormers because I browse there a lot.

trade-a-plane is my go to. Of course, you have to pay them to list there, which means that the planes are ACTUALLY for sale, not just testing the waters. I've never looked on Ebay for a whole plane, although it's a good source for parts. I occasionally look on FB, but they seem to be pretty thin there. Barnstormers is another one I browse occasionally. Does it cost to post there?

Trade a Plane
Controller

I wouldn't trust **** on Craigslist or eBay.
On CL someone once offered to trade me a coffee table for a hand job, so that's roughly how much I trust CL.

I ain't buying an airplane off there.

You don't want to pay ebay seller fees on an airplane.

IDK if there are facebook groups for 172s but places like that or even just POA can get you surprisingly quick response.

Sold a R-22 on E-bay. A few lookie lous, had to cull them out. First honest reply was about 2 weeks. Good buyer, he drove 800 miles with trailer to pick up. Closed quickly. Felt fees were in line with any commission I would have to pay.

I never considered eBay when I bought my first plane - I found it on Barnstormers 19 years ago. Six years later I sold it on Barnstormers (to the first person that saw it).

Last year I shopped for another plane (at my wife’s suggestion) - and found it on Barnstormers. I just couldn’t take eBay seriously as a source for good used aircraft.

From my observation, EVERY aviation facebook group is a place to sell a 172. Those things are everywhere. Lately, for too near $200K :)

It has its pros as it provides a wider audience of potential buyers. However, that larger group requires more due diligence on your part. Used it alot for aircraft parts, etc. over the years with good success. No clue on craigs or facebook.

I found my Husky on Facebook Marketplace. It was approximately 100 miles away. Ironically I knew the seller. That was a year ago.

I sold a plane last year.
I think Barnstormers lead to nothing.
Trade a plane and Controller seemed similar.
I think my plane sold to a private individual that hired a service to find the plane, they did so on controller. If it is unique or worthy of a school buying it make sure to use controller.

I have used Barnstormers with good luck, you do get some low ball offers but that the internet. When I posted I avoided dealing with brokers. I have used E Bay but the responses were people looking to steal your airplane.

FWIW, I just sold a plane and had it listed on Controller, Trade-a-plane, and Facebook. I'm pretty sure the lead that ended up buying it came through Facebook. If I was doing it again, I'd do TAP and Facebook, Controller maybe.

I just bought a Mustakeer off TaP and didn't even haggle. The guy told me he had at least 100 "offers."

My last 2 planes I bought off marketplace. I also sold them on marketplace.

Don't we have a classified thread on this forum... just saying

Yep. My plane is on there, but I guess most folks here already have their planes. I dont do facebook but my wife does. She just doesnt sell much there, so her ad for the plane hasnt generated any real interest.
