What tony said...

Guess I missed the ticker tape parade or surrender ceremony. Which was it?

At KPGD we have electric gates and photo ID. You can not get inside without it. Some badges will only open certain gates. We do have commercial flights here. They are open 24/7.

Not that bad as long as you have the badge. Our FBO got fined because there was a guy doing something on the interior of an airplane with no badge. He had come in with the owner of the bird who did have a badge but the owner left the airport for a few minutes.
I am also at KPGD, and the badges are available only for tenants so that they can access their hangar, or tie down. Though they do work at the three gates where hangars or planes are located. There however was another "incident" here which I believe is in addition to what was mentioned by Speedy, in which one of the TSA agents came into the FBO and asked to be "buzzed" through the door to be let onto the ramp outside the FBO. The attendent buzzed her through at which point she castigated him for letting her through without her having proper ID(she was in uniform BTW). She reported the FBO to the FAA(?) and since then you cannot be let onto the ramp without a proper airport issued ID. From what I was told from my CFI someone from the flight school with proper airport ID must now accompany all students and renters to the plane, whereas when I was learning I would be allowed out. From what I understand transients are allowed in and out because their plane is on the ramp. The whole thing sounded crazy to me when I heard about it(about three or four months ago) and I questioned both my CFI, and the person (one of the line people who also does a lot of other things in terms of administration), and this is evidently what the FAA(?) required.

I used to have an outside guy wash and wax my plane every few months(it was a bargain at $100 and he would take two days to do it, and it would look showroom new) and all he would need was to have someone from the FBO let him in to the hangar area. He was well known by the FBO, having a number of customers on the field. Now he can no longer do that and can only clean planes at one of the on site repair hangars, which of course is real difficult for him.

The airport issued ID however is free, unless you lose it and I think the replacement fee is 10 or 20 dollars.

Barack Hussien Obama, what? Me? That's just his name! I'm not doing anything wrong...I'm not a raciest...I'm just saying the guys name! What? Hussien? I didn't name him. I'm just saying his name over and over and over...what? That's not wrong, is it? Hussien Hussien Hussien. See? It's normal...Hussien.

Hussien Hussien Hussien...I just can't say it enough when I want to support my own view. You're Hussien wrong! I see your Hussien point but I Hussien disagree.

What???

I actually kind of like the idea of a little extra security as you can leave your hanger open without to much worry of anything disappearing. .

AAAHHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAHHHHAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!! Oh man -- that was the funniest thing I've read all day... whew, thanks. That was hilarious.

Hussein is the guy's name. Whether it means anything beyond a name is not for me to say, but I do know that he does a great job apologizing to and for the Islamic leaders who hate the US and western culture, and who continue to wage war on us.

And, BTW, regardless of your view on Iraq, the fact that they had WMDs isn't even up for debate--they used them in the past against their own people. Whether they possessed them at the time of the war is up for debate, but I will remind you that Iraq itself wasn't willing to prove that they didn't have them to avoid the war. In any case, the "Bush lied" narrative is itself a lie, as every prominent world government also found evidence to conclude that Iraq possessed WMDs. And if Bush really did lie, I'm still waiting to hear a plausible, non-conspiratorial reason for why he would do so.

At least when soldiers were killed in the line of duty, Bush sent something more than an auto pen letter months later while he was off campaigning. He also didn't encourage the fall of Islamic goverments who could at least be influenced by western policy, into ones who are now outwardly hostile to us, but to whom we feel a compulsion to capitulate.

As for the airport IDs, the local airport in my area did the photo ID thing perhaps 10 years ago. They also put in motorized gates around the field, despite the fact that they didn't have a perimeter fence at the time. They never activated the gates, and they remain open and likely rusted in that position today. I assumed there was some state and/or federal money behind it, but like most other government-initiated infrastructure projects, it was a waste.

Way to shlt on this thread, guys. Please take the politics elsewhere.

Well that lady is full of crap. My MI DL was issued April 2011, and I didn't go through any of that.

What happens if you don't have any tax bills or utility bills in your name. Or a vehicle in your name, or...

A lot of states told DHS to "Pound Sand" on the "Real ID" Act. DHS/TSA wanted verified IDs in the form of Drivers Licenses to be valid IDs for Airline travel.

It was an unfunded Fed Govt "mandate".

Yeah, due to Colin Powell sitting at the U.N. and stating the US position that they had them. A point which to this day Mr. Powell regrets as 'his biggest mistake'.

Why are we trillions in debt? Ask the last guy who spent it.

Any time someone says the Presidents middle name there's a reason. No other President is referred to by First Middle and Last name. The only reason this one get the treatment is because his middle name happens to coincide with a former leader of a country we invaded...without cause.

Stop watching Fox. Seriously, it's wrecking this country.

Airport IDs...bad. (see? on topic)

John Quincy Adams.

And let me guess CBS is a better choice? Or did you conveniently forget about Rather making things up?

All the news channels have their own agenda. None of them report the news. They all report their version of the news.

It's "Hussein," actually.

I wonder why we didn't hear people saying "George Walker Bush" all the time?

I do hear George Herbert Walker Bush quite a bit in reference to dad.

In addition to John Quincy Adams, and George Walker Bush, already mentioned, but to distinguish them from their fathers more likely than anything else, we have Franklin Deleanor Roosevelt, and Harry S Truman.

I think there is more wrecking this country than Fox...

Oh and then there is John F(itzgerald) Kennedy, and Richard Milhouse Nixon, though Nixon I think is also referred by his nickname Tricky Dick.

Actually quite a number are referred by First Middle and Last...

reminds me of a high school quiz bowl tournament. presidential nicknames was the topic of the lightning round. "Tricky Dick" is one of the answers and a kid on our team says BILL CLINTON. we all had a good laugh about that one.

Our airport has badges and a few commercial flights per day. The badges cost $25 for two years. Our's allow for automobile access, but restrict us to the "non-commercial" areas. All in all, I haven't noticed any problems or inconveniences. Ditto for our travels around the country. This is pretty much a tempest in a teapot.

I do hear George Herbert Walker Bush quite a bit in reference to dad.

I can see why people would do that, to differentiate between him and his son.

I wonder how many people knew John McCain's middle name when he was running for president? Or any of the Republican candidiates' middle names in the last election?

I used to hope for commercial service at our airport to bring in revenue. I am now deadset against it because all it will do is bring the TSA and more security restrictions.

God forbid we ever have municipal airports where a 14 year old can walk around and gawk at planes and roam the hangar rows hoping to find an airport bum to learn about flying and maybe get an airplane ride. If the TSA existed in 1980, part of my childhood would have been completely missing.

Geez........... You just can't get over that Hussein name, can ya ?:dunno:.

No chance you are a bit insecure is there?

Our airport recently decided they were going to require photo ID badges for all tenants. My opinion of this is it is just a stupid intrusive plan that does nothing but add costs and protect the jobs of the lazy county employees. Now that I have stated my opinion I am looking for some facts.

This airport is a reliever airport for a medium size city, nothing spectacular, no control tower, nothing super busy, nothing nearby that is national security critical, no 121 traffic, etc. A GA reliever airport that is sucking the taxpayers dry.

How many of you guys have this requirement at your airport?

Yep, KBED has the airport ID insanity. The idiots in charge at Ma$$port used the airport security plan from KBOS as the baseline doc for KBED.

idiots.

Every two years, $75, plus watching a stupid video for training purposes.

These idiots at Ma$$port put an access gate to the Pine Hill hangars which only worked with cars, not pedestrians, not bikes, not even light to medium motorcycles.

These idiots at Ma$$port prohibit "tailgating" through gates and doors because, get this, they think they'll be able to track who is on the airport grounds (apparently these idiots don't realize the people can arrive/depart via the RUNWAY)

These idiots are spending more money to have biometric access gates.

These idiots prohibit escorting someone who doesn't have their badge. I can escort someone who doesn't have badge (and thus never had a background check), I can escort someone who used to have a badge but doesn't have one anymore (even if the badge was taken away), but the one guy I can't escort is someone who left their badge at home.

Idiots.

(do you get the impression that I dispise the "security" geniuses at Ma$$port?)

When I was based at KSGF, a class C field with commercial service, a badge was required. Cars could enter. You could only acess certain gates. Tall fence all around.

When I was based at KCGI, a class D field with commercial service, a badge was required. Cars could enter. Access thru all gates but there were only two or three. But the kicker...95% of the airport is unfenced. One could (and still can) take a right turn off of southbound I-55 right onto runway 28 or a right off of Airport Road onto 20. Ludicrous.

Are you saying the debt from that war was paid off?

Total cost of the Iraq and Afghan wars to date is $1.4 Trillion. That is larger than the DEFICIT for this year ALONE.
The debt is $16.8 trillion.

The debt has increased from $10.6 trillion to $16.8 trillion since President Obama's inauguration.
That's the equivalent of 4.4 two-front, 12-year-long wars. Or 106 years of Iraq wars.

Try again.

The debt was 5.7 trillion when Bush took office, so it increased by 86% during his administration. It has increased by 58% so far during the Obama administration. Trying to pin it on one side or the other flies in the face of reality.

BWI does this. It's the most agravating thing you ever did see. Each and every time you go to your plane you have to wait for an 'escort'. So it turns into a jobs program that I have to pay for with higher fees / fuel cost.

The infuriating thing is the FBO isn't even close to the terminal. Other side of a runway and at least a mile away. Plus, it's crazy that I can drive my plane around on the ground and even fly in the air...but to WALK on a stupid ramp miles from the terminal to MY plane I need to be supervised by some ramper with far less background checks than me.

bit of a rant there but the place really ticks me off.

MCN (macon, ga) is supposed to be that way about requiring an escort, but I've never had anybody enforce it. They have signs mentioning it. Maybe it's just to keep TSA and FAA happy. They ask me if I need anything when I land then leave.

Not. but it's kind of unecessary to require IDs for the folks you are already familiar with at a small airport. Nor is it necessary to escort anyone to or from the airplane they came in on. It's the people you don't recognize on the wrong side of the fence that you need to look at.

(do you get the impression that I dispise the "security" geniuses at Ma$$port?)

You forgot the prop locks!

Between the fees, prop locks and security I have a no Massport policy. KFIT, KLWM, and Stow are all have very similar last mile transportation as KBED

Non responsive.
But, put another way, GWB increased the debt 4.9 trillion in 8 years, and BO has increased it 6.2 trillion in 4 years.
That's .61 trillion a year for GWB, 1.55 trillion a year for BO.

Try again.

PS. I am against reckless spending under all administrations. It was definitely a bipartisan effort to get here. But the wars had nothing to do with it. You could close DoD and zero its budget, and we'd still have a deficit this year.

<slaps head>

well, since my cherokee was in the Hanscom Aeroclub hangar the past 6 or so years, I haven't had to have the stupid lock on it much. That's my excuse (plus I sold the cherokee last August).

Note that instead of a prop lock, you can chain the aircraft to a tie-down. I guess the idiots at Ma$$port don't understand how quickly the tie-down on a small aircraft can be cut. (never mind how quickly a prop lock can be removed by taking the prop off.)

Kind of funny was an airplane with a "prop lock" just looped over a blade. No figure-eight or anything, you could just slide it off.

Non responsive.

Stop. This. Please.

At least in this thread. Take it to SZ.

I've flown out of 3 airports, the class D/towered with about a dozen airline flights has photo badges and all access to the ramp requires a keycard. The class D/towered without commercial service, but with moderate GA jet traffic has no badges, but all ramp access is through a FBO. No locked doors, but I think the assumption is that the FBOs will see people walking from the street, through the FBO, and on to the ramp, and will keep an eye out for the crazies. The un-towered little airport I call home has no badges, a keycard for the vehicle gate (given to hangar owner/renters) and an unlocked gate next to the FBO for pedestrian access.

I think the badge-mania increases linearly with the number of airline operations.

Non responsive...Try again.

Non responsive to what? What is it you want me to try to do?

The subject I'm discussing is this, from post #38:

Care to share with us how the hell the U.S. is 16.7 TRILLION in debt????

My point is that "This president is worse than that president" arguments don't shed much light on that question.

Yeah, due to Colin Powell sitting at the U.N. and stating the US position that they had them. A point which to this day Mr. Powell regrets as 'his biggest mistake'.

Colin Powell had already considered the intelligence reports of other countries prior to his appearance at the UN. He either believed what he reported at the time, was incompetent, or was such an opportunist that he'd sacrifice his integrity for his boss' personal agenda. You can make your own decision on that one.

Regarding the debt, the current president has added more to it in the last 4 years than his predecessor did in 8, but in both cases I will agree that there has been way too much borrowing to fund massive expansions of government. War spending is temporary, entitlement spending is forever, or at least until it gets crushed under its own weight. Just ask the Europeans.

The current president gets the treatment he does because of his behavior, not his name. He played cat and mouse for years with documentation regarding his place of birth, has given speeches apologizing to countries and groups of individuals who are not friendly to the United States, assisted in the overthrow of governments reasonably friendly to the United States which were predictably replaced with governments less friendly to the United States, and chastised Americans for daring to call terrorists "terrorists." And that's only a partial list.

I only wish I could watch Fox News, but unfortunately, I am too cheap to receive cable or satellite. I don't even watch clips on the Internet.

I have three. One for KGHG at $30 annually to the local Airport Commission. One for KLWM $30 for three years to the local Airport Commission. And my new one for KOWD which was $35 for two and I could only pick it up in person 8-noon Thursdays.
All these are made through Mass Aviation Commission (now MASSDot), look identical except for the picture, all mag striped, NONE valid at MASSDot airports, and NONE work at any of the other 32 airports in Massachusetts.
It's a gimmick to make money. It doesn't work at TSA anywhere
By the way, I never go to Hansom airport and yet I get a bill once or twice a year from them for "takeoff fee". I will admit to overflying them, but I haven't landed there since my training days.

Those tactics used in the private sector would get anyone charged with Extortion and Fraud........

Jus sayin.:(
