The original "I don't know it all" of aviation.
Note how the "reused" the ordinance rail to hold a camera pod.

(for the DTO locals, this was parked in the transient area just below the tower)

That has the Air Force paint scheme and a BuNo on the tail boom. Did you see an N number anywhere? I thought all those O-2s had been surplused out. Even California Air Attack has retired their 337s.

So who's got the money to put the R2D2 on a Cessna?

------------

I downloaded the image and zoomed it up. It looks like an N number on the bottom of the vertical stab.

I did attempt a photo of the N# but it didn't come out clear enough for me to make it out.

But I did search the "Air Force Number" on the upper part of the stabilizer and found a reference to a Commemorative Air Force Wing.

In any case, I always thought that airframe was an interesting design and continues to have some ramp appeal.

Love the way those look. I wonder if you could rig something up on the hardpoints for flour bombing competitions

I'd love to get my hands on another and take it out for a spin.

I saw a transient Skymaster on the ramp at E11 a few years ago that looked like it would fall apart at any moment. It was raggedy, even had peeling duct tape helping to hold the cowling on. The old pilot was asleep in a chair in the FBO. It was gone the next day, so I guess it held together enough to take off.

But this is like 70's porn, where when you look at it now, you shudder.

One of my favorite aircraft, beauty is in the eye of the pilot

I think I'll dig out that old BAT 21 DVD!
