Aircraft down at PRC - 90 mins ago…

It's on all the local facebook pages, but I don't think it has made it to any real news sources yet. Reports right now are saying that one occupant is deceased.

Speculation hat on:
That looks like he flew a close downwind and attempted a very tight base/final turn.

The area he turned towards on base is a massive “black hole” at night.

The last ping showed them on base, crossing the final(s) in a slight left turn, at 168 knots and increasing, at 4300’ but in a ~ 5,000fpm dive that had also been increasing.

The final ping was over two miles from the threshold, after an extended downwind to base. The base turn would have pointed them toward some very featureless, unlit terrain, over an hour after sunset and just after nautical twilight ended. The moon would not have been rising yet.

The weather was clear, fairly calm winds. Kinda perfect looking, to be honest.

Looks like he was only about 400’ AGL on an extended downwind and continued the decent on base. Slow ground speed and unbelievable rate of descent. Local pilot.

My major error posted above. Downwind altitude was pretty much in the numbers. Just too tight of a downwind and possible attempt to avoid overshoot of final to avoid parallel landing traffic on 21R.

An industry colleague was killed on Feb 4, 2026 when his Socata TB-21 went down, seemingly in the pattern, enroute to land at KPRC. An immediate assumption could be a stall/spin on base to final turn, but he was a highly experienced pilot and there was no Mayday call. Any locals have more insight?
