ADS-B spoofing

Callsign is VANCE2.
Probably done at ADS-B feed into the server level.
Not on flightaware, but it is on FR24 and adsbex.

Flightaware won't normally show military aircraft from ADS-B feed per their contract with the FAA, but FR24 and ADS-B Exchange don't have that restriction and regularly show military aircraft.

I'm curious if ATC and aircraft operating in the area are seeing this on their screens, and if it is causing issues for ATC at PBI. I realize that any computer system can be hacked, but if this is an outsider playing with ADS-B information, the implications are dangerous. I could see someone doing something far more nefarious than spoofing AF1 to draw a photo.

I have noticed departures off of PBI are making a left turn and avoiding this particular piece of airspace. I don't know enough about the area to know if that is a typical departure out of PBI or is because of this.

So this is silica-based flying, no actual plane?

What do the colors represent? I only know/use FlightAware.

The color of the aircraft and its track changes based on altitude. The aircraft is "transmitting" that is is 82-8000 (aka the VC-25/Air Force One). It is clearly not a real aircraft, as to get the color changes shown it is varying altitude from 1,000 to 40,000 feet in a matter of seconds. It is also perfecting tracking north south, with no course reversals, like a dot-matrix printer.

This King Air clearly was vectored around it on departure from PBI. Maybe I'm Chicken Little, but I think this is a scary revelation about ADS-B data that is can be spoofed in such a fashion. Imagine a bad actor used it to crowd out airspace around a busy Class B, shutting down traffic.

The "dark fleet" spoofs positions in shipping with their AIS so not surprising ADSB can have the same thing happen.

I was thinking the skin was kinda orange.

Also, why is Vance dressed as an Eskimo?

Here’s a better picture. It’s supposedly a JD Vance meme but I have no idea what that means.

I worked for many years in advanced networking(SUN, IBM, etc), and my experience developed over those many years, the fedguv and many of the NGOs had the WORST reputation for network security. It's almost axiomatic that the ADS-B network and associated ground layers that make up the rapid interchange of data needed to perform their job is unsecured, or poorly secured. I can't count up the number of times I've walked up to a fedguv server or network device and logged in with 'admin' or 'root' and 'password', or similar.

the basic ADS-B message structure is completely unsecure. You don't need to hack into the ground infrastructure to spoof anything.
