AD 84-26-02 says it applies to all small aircraft that use paper induction filters - can't exceed 500 hours time in service for any paper induction filter.

AD 99-05-09 is a Piper specific AD for Purolator part number (P/N) 638873, which is what my Cherokee 140 uses. This AD requires the air filter to be replaced if:

(1) Was manufactured anytime from January 1997 through September 1998; and
(2) Is identified with a .250 (1/4)-inch high (white) ink stamp "FACET - 638873", and may include "FAA-PMA".

This AD 99-05-09 was complied with way back before I got the plane. But I assume the AD 84-26-02 still applies in the sense that you must replace a paper induction filter before 500 hours? Is that correct?

Whoa... wait one freakin' minute...

Let an expert weigh in on this.

oh never mind.

I can't find one.

I just thought that was too quick and simple so I thought it must be wrong.

Carry on.

No.
It actually reads:
"Within the next one hundred hours time-in-service after the
effective date of this AD or prior to the accumulation of 500
hours time-in-service on the filter, whichever occurs later, and
thereafter at intervals not exceeding 500 hours time-in-service
on the filter"
So, you can probably run it right up to 500 hours.
Better, SkyDog?
