A raft in the survival pack cooked off in an F-4E at Da Nang one day. Made a mess of the plane and didn't do the guy sitting on it at the time any good, either.

Holy cow! And this plane has had some interesting other incidents too, from 1984:

"TOP SECTION OF ENGINE COWL POPPED UP AND FLUTTERED ON TAKEOFF. STRUCK POWERLINES WHILE RETURNING TO AIRPORT."

Sounds like a pilot I know. He has a whole slew of "incidents" in his record including problems when he attempted to taxi off with the right wing still tied down (twice) and bashed the prop on a taxiway light (and probably more we didn't hear about).
