23 years after I took my first flight (almost to the day actually....), my son took his first flight today with an instructor. He's 13, so he is going to slow roll his way to sport pilot over the next few years but he's absolutely hooked and had a great time today!

Was so bizarre sitting at the airport watching him taxi away and takeoff with someone else in the right seat!

Cool looking flight - he nab ed his first 1.5 hours in his new shiny logbook today.

Ditto. (Because I can’t think of anything more pithy to say. LOL)

Need to get him started with Texas Soaring Association too. He can solo gliders at 14, if I remember correctly.

That's very cool man, congrats!

My 13yo got a big smile on his face when I showed him this post :)

You’re being a good dad, sharing the thrill of flight. My dad did that when I was 8, and 50 years later I finally got my license

It’s so etched in my brain my kids first flight…wait till solo day…another heart stopping moment, then filled with joy. Congrats to you and your son!

Hey Nick, congratulations to you and your son.

My Grandson is in the x-c phase of his PP-ASEL training, so almost done, flying out of KDPA. He is about to turn 18, a junior in HS, with his sights on Perdue for college and immediately applying for their flight program. We all know that kids change goals over time, but if you talk to him, he is adamant that he is headed for the airlines.

The poor kid is doomed to this future! Both of his Grandfathers are pilots! We are very proud of him. Among other things he is on the Varsity Swim team. Very tall (I worry maybe too tall to fit in the seats?) but he has been training in a 172M without complaint.

I also know he is a chick magnet. Varsity swimming, tall, handsome, and a pilot, too? When he walks the family dog, he is never alone. But he is focused on the airlines for now. Go for it all, kid!

I am as proud of this young man as you are of your son! Congratulations to you and to him as well. Thanks for checking in!

I recently had the same milestone with my teenage son a few months ago. It is a great feeling! Cheers to lots of future aviation moments with our kids!

That’s awesome!! My now 30 year old son started taking lessons at 15, soloed at 16 and now has his IR and comm. Very proud dad moments indeed!!
