a handful of FREE aviation apps

I designed and had Claude code a handful of FREE aviation apps (weather/climate, digital autopilots, etc). Let me know if you have any questions or suggestions.

Cool!

I do have one question, though - I went through all 42 questions on the Scoreboard quiz, and I believe several of them suffer from the same issue. Once you're in a vertical mode with a new altitude bugged, shouldn't ALTS be in the vertical armed mode? I think there were a total of 9 questions where this would apply.

I really like the idea of your know the score quiz but I fly a Dynon HDX. Not sure if you have time in Dynon SkyView or are that familiar with them. Would love to see this on Dynon.

After a couple years flying the Dynon I still feel weak in advanced autopilot modes with approaches. Despite my searches I wasn't able to find much in the way of instructions and demonstrations for autopilot usage on approach. Yes, I've RTFM.

It’s been a few years, but IIRC, the big difference between the Garmin and Dynon AP is that the Garmin has both a VNAV vertical mode (enroute VNAV) and an APR vertical mode (GS/GP capture). The Dynon AP combines both in its VNV key. Again, IIRC, that results in a few differences when flying an instrument approach, including the entry of selected altitude.

(and yeah, the manual is not that helpful on practical usage)

@flyingcheesehead, you are totally correct. Not sure how I missed those (like 10 of them)... ?maybe my eyes confirm IAS on the Scoreboard and the numeric x000 in the ALTS window, and not the ALTS in the Scoreboard??
If you have time, please check me on these fixes.

I'm a bit unsure on questions 30, 38... and also TOGA climbs Q4, Q31 and Q40. My visual memory just doesn't remember how this shows on the Scoreboard... just that I check the ALTS window. Hmmm.

It could also be that VERT ARMED only shows ALTS and never ALT??? and that VERT ACTIVE only shows ALT??

Sincere thanks for your help on this!

I'm not running through all of them, but TOGA climbs will annunciate GA/GA - one for lateral and one for vertical. ALTS in white (armed) for the selected altitude. In theory, you could climb all the way to your selected altitude in in TOGA mode. And the lateral and vertical modes are independent. IOW, on a climb out, you can change the lateral mode to, say, HDG, but leave the climb in GA. FWIW, I generally teach this sequence to avoid rushing (#1 issue I see on the missed). You typically need to turn soon and need to take the time to confirm it is correct, but can safely delay switching to VS or IAS/FLC.

@FORANE, thanks for checking in. Unfortunately I have exactly zero hours behind a Dynon panel. All I can offer is perhaps a starter from a textual version of the "quiz" that I put together with a Avidyne pilot. Feel free to File, Make a Copy... and edit as you see fit for the Dynon.

Happy flying!

Exactly! Though I believe it's ALTS, not ALT, when it's armed.

I think any time you're changing altitude and you have the new altitude bugged, it's ALTS in armed. Doesn't matter if you're in VS, IAS/FLC, VNAV, or Pitch.

And, I think you're right that it's always ALTS when armed, but just ALT when active (captured).
