A Fitting Tribute To USS Arizona Shipmates

I had seen this before but it still stirs the emotions. Thanks to all those that serve and served without hesitation to still protect us. Many are on this site.

Thanks for sharing.

I've been to the memorial several times, it is a humbling experience, that no one forgets.

Very moving, thanks for posting that. The Arizona Memorial has to be one of the most humbling and reverent places I've ever visited. Not to be missed.

Gary.

I was 17 when I joined the Navy. Pulling into Pearl Harbor was my first port of call. We docked across the bay near "Battle Ship Row". It was a very humbling and moving experience. I could not afford the $5 taxi ride to the Arizona Memorial so it would be another 25 years before I would return.

The memorial itself along with the museum is not to be missed. It shows battle planning documents, errors made on both sides,, pilot interviews, etc. I could have spend a half a day there.

I saw the Iowa in Los Angeles on Thursday. I wasn't able to see the whole ship due to bleeding feet issues and too much climbing ladders, but I did see the main deck and the one above that. What an incredible machine so rich with history.

Hope someday I'll make it to Pearl Harbor.

The first time we went to Hawaii (1987 or so) we took the kids to the Arizona Memorial. A good friend of my cousin's was there as a docent. He was impressed with the good questions my kids asked. Amazed at how clueless some visitors are. Very sobering place to visit.

I had to ask several people to talk quietly and take their hats off, as did the caretaker. Most think it is a site seeing whale watching cruise.

Very moving and well done by the Park Service.

Another place on Oahu that brings tears is the Punchbowl Cemetery. Along with the grave they have the names of the 10s of thousands that were never recovered.

While you're at it, do the USS Missouri tour, too. The juxtaposition of the ship that symbolizes the start of the war (Arizona) and the one that symbolizes the end of the war (Missouri) is fascinating. Especially since they are a few hundred yards apart.

Punchbowl is well worth it. I posted a couple of photos from Punchbowl in another thread.

Oh, my.

In memory of all who served, those who died in the war and those who passed later (including my father, who was at sea in the Pacific for three years), I observe a moment of reverent silence.

But for these brave souls, so much would be so different.

Thanks for the video very humbling .
