The cam lope actually reminds me a lot of the sound of a marine engine, like a Mercury 525 (Blue Motor) or Mercruiser 496. That Murphy Moose is awesome and would be a blast to pond hop with.

Agree. Moose's also looks gorgeous with the M-14P engine

The floats are too small. The CG is too far forward.

How can I tell? The tips of the floats keep dipping into the water. He even admits he needs ballast.

That'd do a lot to fix the anemic take off. Then again, I don't believe it's making the full 525hp.

Performance looked pretty awful, I think a 172 with an 0300 on a hot day at gross weight would be off the water quicker.

It had a Barrett souped-up Russian radial and Whirl Wind prop blades. I don’t recall the circumstances but it was totaled while parked.

Never had a radial, but I am not seeing a lot of downside in a Moose. The HP and GPH seem reasonable considering 540 alternatives. Rebuild costs do not seem particularly bad.

that moose was 20+ seconds to get off the water? Did seem slow for the amount of claimed power.
Maybe a lot of that power went straight into noise generation.

Its a very pretty aircraft. Looks like it needs some tweaks to perform to potential.
