Believe it or not it has already been almost a year since our last fundraiser to help cover the cost associated with site upkeep and maintenance.

As some of you know, Pilots of America periodically runs a fundraiser to gather donations to support the upkeep of the site and the expenses that come along with it. We are now going to open up a fundraising period again, and we would like to kindly ask that you consider donating to help fund the operation of Pilots of America. The costs for our web-hosting services have continued to increase and thus, we are in need of replenishing the fund balance.

As a little background, Pilots of America is a nonprofit organization. We are not a 501(c)3, but rather a state registered nonprofit. As such, none of us (moderators and technical administrators) receive any money for the work done with the site. It costs us several hundred dollars per month for the AWS resources necessary to keep the site running and backed up. Plus, we have to pay for domain registration, software/plugin updates for necessary and requested features, etc. The fees add up, and the cost for such has continued to increase, along with everything else!

We would like to, once again, raise enough money to keep everything running for another year or so, but to do this, we need YOUR help!

As a token of appreciation for your generosity, you will receive a fancy ‘PoA Supporter’ badge next to your name like mine. If you already have one, than making a donation will extend the time effectiveness of it and further your commitment to keep PoA alive and well!

Our end goal, as always, is to make Pilots of America a great resource for pilots (and aviation enthusiasts in general) for generations to come, and by making a donation, you’re helping to ensure that becomes a reality!

If you'd like to donate an amount more (or less) than those listed, feel free to send me a PM and I’ll be happy to work with you. You can also purchase more than one of the levels, if you desire!

The donation options can be found here - https://www.pilotsofamerica.com/community/account/upgrades

Thank you! :)

Not this time man. Way too slow
I am not sure what you’re referring to, but if it is the site performance, we actually just did some back end work yesterday which should provide some updates and improve the performance of the system. :)

It was a joke bro.

Should have added the /s for everyone.

Thanks so much to everyone who has donated thus far, we appreciate it immensely!

If I give money again, do you promise that the moderation will be a bit more reasonable over the next year? Getting banned for a joke, rather than the MC simply deleting a post, seems waaaaay over the top to me and isn't the best way to appeal to my generosity.

We try to be fair across the board. As described on the account upgrades page -

“Please note that donations given are accepted with extreme gratitude. No goods or services are guaranteed in return for these donations. Giving a donation does not guarantee ongoing access to the board should the donor violate the site Rules of Conduct nor buy you any special favor with the MC.”

:-)

Pretty easy to rationalize out. Start with a $20 gift budget. Subtract $20 for every time you get a mod rebuke for something asinine.

My donation this year is -$20. :P

Yeah, I'm willing to go with a buck a point, and forgive the MC's debt in accordance with the ROC. It's gonna take 'em a while to get out of the hole.

Has this site ever sold t-shirts or hats? I'd over pay for one to help support

I just had to toss my shirt a little while ago, it was getting a bit on too ratty looking.

Not sure I've ever actually seen anyone use a shirt pocket before. What do you normally put in there? Pens?

pens, glasses (e.g., readers/cheaters), notes
