2026 Flying Goals

Get my Inspection Authorization, finish my ‘46 Chief, get the 180 flying.

Maybe even get the Taylorcraft done…

Chief is paint and assemble. Poly spray going on the fuse tomorrow. 180 is get tail reassembled after some repairs, windshield in and it’ll be airworthy again. Taylorcraft needs tail feathers painted, fuse recovered. Ambitious but doable.

Inspection Authorization…. CHECK!

Land at the remaining grass strips up in the Cascade Mountains that I haven't visited yet. Get a good night picture of my plane on the Alvord Desert floor with a clear backdrop of stars. The pact couple of times I've attempted that picture the weather refused to cooperate. If anyone has advice for the starry backdrop picture, I'm wide open for recommendations.
You looking for something like this?

Finish commercial -> Multi -> Fly dad to fishing hole in Florida

Find plane to buy that won't bankrupt me or kill me

Get current (with a flight review).
Fly some Young Eagles.
Fly regularly.
Get the other two wings done for the biplane; tail feathers for extra credit.

Get medical done.
Actually got back in the air! 1.7 hours logged yesterday. Slow flight, steep turns, power on and power off stalls, 4 TO & landings. Overall, not great but not bad. CFI says he's working with a CFII who's only been off since 12/2025 who's struggling way more and I've been off since 12/2024. First set of steep turns was not up to standards (even PP) but the second set was fine.

I didn't scare myself any, and his only concern was getting slow on final. Which was probably fair, but we were nowhere near stall. We had winds at 12G18 from 120 deg with using RW9 and he insisted on 20 degree flap landings because of the wind and knowing we had an 11,000' runway. I'd have done full flaps all day in that, but my initial CFI was serious about handling cross winds and short strips for which I am grateful.

Wow, didn’t realize you had been grounded so long. Glad to hear you’re flying again!

Yeah, the FAA medical department coupled with my DRs availability has made for an long process to get my 3rd class. But barring any other complications, the process from here is straight forward.

Can you go Basic after this? Much easier.

I could (as far as what I'm doing flying) but my wife who has cheerfully and enthusiastically supported and encouraged my flying (including dropping $10AMUs on a CP-MES in a Beech 18) said she's more comfortable if I have a 3rd class. I'm not bucking that one.

Wives like that are rare creatures. Stay very quiet, make no sudden moves, and don't frighten her away.
