It was crazy hot today. We’ve been here since Friday and it was busy and was hot as balls today. Forecast is for highs around 90 all week — bring sunscreen!
Yeah we flew up yesterday just to practice the notam and lakeland and most of central Florida was IFR until 11am in the morning. There was a flight of a L-39 and a T-45 taking off from Brooksville which was pretty cool. We were going to fly up tomorrow but unfortunately there's something going on with the plane so me and my friend will be driving there instead.Yesterday was a good start. Crowds seemed avg to slightly above for an opening day but aircraft manufacturers and venders are here in force despite that fact that some (like Van's) only attend Osh due to the overall cost and travel time. Fog in the morning that burned off into a blistering 90* day-- gonna be in the 90's all week. Wear suncsreen and hydrate! I thought the opening night concert was a success and free beer over at Coconut Flyers before and after the concert capped off a fun day that started with making 2200 sandwiches for the other SnF volunteers. Had to go into the office today but I'll be back out there this evening in time for the night airshow.
Looking pretty, Salty.
Oh nice, any extra seats?I plan to be there Friday and Saturday. Probably coming in a King Air 350. Not sure where they’ll put us. Hopefully at paved area at E1. We’d camp in the grass there.
Pax to be dropped off in Miami were late. Quick turn at KOPF was anything but. Got to Lakeland area a few minutes before airport closed at 1 and ATC said no go. Diverted to Plant City and rented a car. Had fun looking at stuff, hassling vendors and enjoying Blue Angels. My twin Cessna type club is having a dinner here tonight. So all good.Oh nice, any extra seats?

The King Air 350 is a great airplane.I had a super time my 2 days this year. My "vendor" beef was in the FAA's building. I went in right at opening at 9 this morning to ask for a little help with a safety seminar I intend to do an my airport. There must have been 20 FAA people in there (on OT, no doubt) and not one was trying to connect with any of the attendees that had just walked in. They were all just rrsitting in chairs. When I approached one to ask for help, he said to call my local FSDO. End of discussion. These guys are ripe for DOGE.
Anyway, I got useful info from a lot of vendors, saw some awesome flying by the civilian performers and the military fighter demos and Blue Angels, ran into people I knew, spent a bunch of money and flew the leg home in the KA350. Great weekend.

Why not fly into Lakeland, where the show is? Or are you talking about airlines?Besides Orlando intl and Tampa Intl which GA are recomendad to fly in during this event?
Thanks
GA airports, Lakeland ? Will have to practice my spot landings…….very short field landingsWhy not fly into Lakeland, where the show is? Or are you talking about airlines?
Well TPA and MCO are not the airports to fly into as GA. Besides flying into the show at LAL, PCM, BOW, GIF, VDF, X07, and ZPH are the nearest options. Besides LAL, all will require some type of ground transportation plus lodging.GA airports, Lakeland ? Will have to practice my spot landings…….very short field landings
Well Avelo and Amazon fly Airliners in and out of LAL. The taxiway you land on during the show is 8000 feet long, yes there are a couple of colored dots you need to land on depending on traffic, but there's nothing remotely resembling a short field landing.GA airports, Lakeland ? If you want to go that far out then that opens up ORL and ISM as options too. But realistically the drive to LAL from SPG is probably gonna take a bit more than an hour on a weekday, and could be considerably more. Same on the drive back. That said the area around SPG is awesome so it depends where you want to spend your time.Another option is to fly to Albert whitted (SPG). Puts you in downtown St Pete, walking distance of bars, restaurants and shops. Rent a car, about an hour drive to Lakeland if you to want mix up your itinerary and see (eat) more than just what's at the show.
