    Starter recommendations?

Any recommendations for replacement starters for a '72 Piper Arrow 2? I think I currently have a Prestolite MZ 4218 (installed all the way back in '93). It seems a lot of people move to Sky-Tec but wondering if there's any other thoughts on the best starter to get?

How long do your batteries last?

I had a 2yr old Gill battery that died on me last Thursday. Due to a mix of holiday travel, sub-zero temps and perpetual LIFR fog I only managed to fly the plane 3h in the last 30 days. That's the lowest amount of time I've ever flown over a 1 month interval with the exception of when it's in...

    Alternator kaput?

Have a trip I was going to fly out for tomorrow morning. I do my oil change and ground-run to check for leaks. When I start it up to taxi it over to fuel up, I realize my alternator isn't generating any juice. I troubleshoot it during taxi to try and see if I can fix it. Status: - Alternator...

    Piper Arrow Fuel Pressure

Over the last couple months my arrow's fuel pressure gauge has been on the fritz. For a while it was jumpy -- oscillating wildly in the green back and forth like a metronome. Then it would read near 0 after start-up and during taxi, but then come up and stabilize in the green during run up. Now...

For Sale A&P in the KDPA area (west chicagoland)?

Hi! Curious if there are any A&Ps in the Chicagoland area who would be interested in helping with a couple small things on my Arrow? 1) Supervise/assist with my oil change 2) Help me troubleshoot/diagnose a radio transmit issue (looking to understand what could be happening, even if we can't...

    YouTube channel

I’ve started a YouTube channel for some of the things we see in our GA shop. It’s not like a “how to”, mainly we just show things we find that are bad, and talk about how we may fix it. It’s been challenging compiling all the clips, because everyone is airdropping me things. Just curious...

    PA28-161 with Bent right seat

Hey, I’ve been trying to research for months now if there is a solution for having the right seat bent backwards in PA28’s. The plane is used by a flight school and as such, multiple renters and students have leeeeaned on the right seat back as they lowered themselves into the cockpit. This...

Piston Singles easily serviced outside of the US (Latin America)?

Good day, PoA. I was wondering what the folks here thought would be some easily serviced piston singles when outside of the US - mainly in Latin America. For context I'd like to purchase something in the next ~year or so and eventually move/fly around Latin America (anything I purchase will...

Afraid to maintain an old plane

Am I being crazy? Im in the market for my first airplane. I want something that can put along at at least 140 knots. My usual trip is 650 miles. I don’t mind multi legs but I don’t want a head wind to double the trip time. I would like the versatility of a C177 or 182 (tall pilot, likely...

Newly minted PPL purchased Piper Arrow II - tips on flying or maintenance?

After an 18 month journey of stops and starts I completed my PPL this October :). Simultaneously completed a transaction to buy a Piper Arrow II (PA-28R-200), which I'm happy to say is now safely in my hangar at KDPA outside of Chicago after a beautiful flight from KTVC. I'm nearly complete with...

Pirep on Garsa Air (Flabob) or other nearby shop

Hi Folks- I'm expecting to need an oil change on my Archer in mid-June during a big trip from the East coast to CA and back. Planning to base at RIR (Flabob) while in the area. I know Garsa used to run the DC-3s out of flabob but their website has disappeared. Are they still in business...
