    RRRRRRRough River 2023! (2I3 4/21/2023 - 4/23/2023)

Booked the lodge. Hoping for ok weather. Considered bringing the Taj Mahtent but ultimately opted for indoors. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Choosing a "public benefit" flying organization

I flew a LifeLine flight FROM Mayo toward Ohio. Dad was a doc there, mom was a nurse, and little kid already had had 18 surgeries. These are edge cases where you bring the patient to the experts. Believe me, they certainly didn’t want to fly the little guy if they didn’t have to, and they knew...

    Mountain Flying Training near BJC

I'm a flatland pilot heading to BJC in an M-20J to attend a conference in early May and am looking to get a day or half-day of Mountain Flying training in. A friend pointed me to the Colorado Pilot's Association page, and the one instructor in Golden whom I emailed hasn't responded. Any...

    Asheville

I'm headed there on the 24th, so will be nearby. I will probably arrive sometime mid-day; how much wind is too much to get into a field like AVL? I'm happy to go IFR over the top, and more than happy to divert if need be. I'll be coming from the northwest (KMIC). I've ordered Sparky Imeson's...

    Asheville

I'm an instrument-rated flatlander looking at a getaway flight to Asheville NC for a weekend later in April. Wondering if there's a better (read: cheaper) place to go that's still reasonably close. Also for campground recommendations and sites to see in the city and in the country. Any advice?

    Solo student's mishap

That was a damn hazy day. I can imagine my 17 year old self getting discombobulated and ignoring the DG, or forgetting to align the DG with the whiskey compass in the first place. Luckily for everybody, I didn't get my pilot's certificate until I was almost forty.

    Planes the movie

Watched it Saturday with my wife and our eight-year-old. I thought the story could've used more work, but they did a fine job with the aviation (lots of inside jokes for pilot types), and the 3D was a nice touch.

    Private Pilot Reimbursement

Ron, Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I'm glad you put up with us. Let me know the next time you're in the MSP area (or at AirVenture) and the drinks are on me.

    Private Pilot Reimbursement

Wow, thanks all for the enlightenment. I had been working with my tax guy (who knows more than a bit about aviation taxes), and he had been recommending I buy my plane personally and have my company reimburse me for expenses. But that leaves me unable to carry anyone else. Am I correct in that...

    Commercial Pilot Aeronautical Experience

Thanks for the answers. The trip down was pretty challenging, in that I opted to delay to allow a large cold front pass my route of flight, letting me hook into the back side of a low pressure system and an epic tailwind. It was definitely the most sophisticated flight I'd planned, due to all...
