Training flight from Denver to KASE

    1) Is the sponsoring organization 501(c)3? No. It's commercial operation. 2) What is the situation with insurance? We are happy to discuss with any operators to figure out proper insurance. 3) You do realize that most 4-seat pistons aint gonna make it except by a non-direct route, right...

Training flight from Denver to KASE

There is a group of about 20 kids and their parents coming to participate in outdoor training camp in Aspen. The kids are from 4 yo to 16 yo. They also want a primer on general aviation, so we plan to take them XC from the city to Aspen, departing from either BJC or APA. A jet is not what we are...

    Elite RC-1 and 8710

Actually, I don't know if it is certified. This sentence "Up to 20 hour of instrument time can be logged in our Elite RC-1 AATD", is on the flight school website. I haven't seen any official document for this claim yet. My CFII logged this time (5.5 hours) as PCATD in my logbook though.

    Elite RC-1 and 8710

Thank you for pointing out the thread. But I'm still confused. Should I put the 5.5 hours in the column of Training Device or PCATD? Thank you

    Elite RC-1 and 8710

I've scheduled my IR check ride for next week. I did 5.5 hours on a Elite RC-1, and logged the time as simulated instrument and dual instruction. In the 8710 form, the Aeronautical Experience Grid shows three columns for those devices as following Training Device / Simulator / PCATD...

    Walks Into Turning Propeller

Always approach an airplane from behind. Always approach a helicopter from front. These are what they taught in skydiving classes.

    ILS Procedure question

About the following ILS approach. My procedure to fly it would be PT outbound to 7000, PT inbound to 6600, then intercepting the GS. My CFII's procedure is PT outbound to 7000, and keeping 7000 when PT inbound. Intercept the GS at 7000, and verify altitude (6533) at BUFFS LOM. It is shown as...

    Aspiring (International) Private Pilot Questions

If you are not a US citizen, you'll most likely have to go throught the TSA screen program https://www.flightschoolcandidates.gov before start the flight training. Make sure the flight school understands this requirment and can assist you on this matter.

    Primary/Supporting Instrument Flying

Rod Machado's Instrument Pilot's Handbook has a very clear presentation about P/S method. Rod also developed an easy way to remember those combinations.

Logging XC with practice en route.

I'm surprised that this post generated so intensive discussion. Thanks for all comments. I really learn a lot. Now the story from my instructor side. He is definitely aware of the FARs. Base on his previous experience in California, he said there were pilots who did lots lots of...

Logging XC with practice en route.

Thanks for all your replies. My instructor also said if I'm going to apply for ATP one day, they will exam my logbook very closely. A XC flight that should take 1 hour normally, but I log 4 hours to finish it, won't count for XC. Although an ATP sounds far far away for me at this moment. I...

Logging XC with practice en route.

I just started my instrument rating last week and did a XC flight on hood with my CFII. We did some practice en route, turns/climbs/descents and pattern A. The flight was 2.0 hours, but my instructor only logged 1.6 hours XC time in my logbook. His argument is that a normal flight from...

    Jump planes

I'm both a skydiver and a private pilot, but never fly a jump plane. My local dropzone flies a king air and a Twin otter as jump planes. They usually takeoff/climb fast, comparing to the poor 172 I fly, and descend very fast, to minimize the flight time, reducing the operation/fuel cost. As a...
