    Rotax vs. traditional (engine shutdown)

My rookie is going to show here. Why do Rotax engines stop almost suddenly upon shutdown, where as traditional Lycoming and Continental engines take a second or so to stop, until they don’t have enough energy to roll over the compression stroke. Why the difference?

    Jeppesen Logbook Grrr!

Who decided a .25” x 1” Remarks box was a good idea? Man, I dislike this logbook.

    CSEL Checkride Debrief

The Commercial was certainly a fun one. I arrived at the DPE’s office at 1pm and he was ready to get started. The logbook audit, paperwork, test overview etc., took about 30 minutes or so and then the oral began. It was definitely right down the ACS and lots of stuff that’s more or less review...

    Got my ticket punched (again)!

CSEL complete! Commercial was definitely fun training, with plenty of stick and rudder. Got lucky with perfect weather for the check ride today amidst lots of days lately and in the forecast for rain and goo. Full debrief soon!

Piper Malibu down Lake Norman, NC (14A)

Sad… I recall reading somewhere that Malibu’s have a fairly high accident rate, if true, why? Not clear what happened yet. https://www.wsoctv.com/news/local/plane-crashes-into-lake-norman-neighborhood/RWYROFKKD5DPRGJZW3UNPGH33A/?outputType=amp

    Instrument Checkride - Full Debrief

Now that I've got some time to sit down and put the checkride into words, here it goes... I scheduled the ride about a month in advance. My CFII was familiar with the typical checkride profile and what my specific examiner likes to hit on. Two days prior, I received the 'instructions'. I was to...

    First time solo in IMC

Well I popped the cherry today. It was IFR all day today and slowly improved to MVFR late this evening. I waited til there was at least a 2000ft ceiling and launched. It was reported as 2,600ft at the time and some few below. I picked up my clearance via cellphone on the ground and took off...

    Got my ticket punched today…

Officially Instrument rated! It was a pretty thorough evaluation. About a 2 hour oral and then a 1.7 flight. Overall the oral was straightforward and right by the ACS. We talked about weather a fair bit, rightfully so and covered about everything related to flight planning, approaches, approach...

    Electronic Logbook?

Who uses one? Anyone use MyFlightBook? Looks like most of them require a subscription, but MFB appears to be free. I want to use a reputable one so I minimize the risk of losing my account if the company goes tits up one day. Opinions? Also, how do I get instructor signatures into old entries...

    Strength of GA?

How does the sustainability and health of General Aviation look in the near term? It seems there are a greater amount of aircraft on the market for sale and with inflation rearing its head on everything from the price of fuel, to parts, to hangar etc., at what point does the squeeze really...
