NH High School Students Building More Planes

Saw this article in our local paper. Great program for building new aviation enthusiasts. https://www.unionleader.com/news/education/student-plane-build-program-adds-two-new-destinations/article_848ff74e-e868-11ee-a446-9fefc3509a0c.html?utm_medium=social&utm_source=email&utm_campaign=user-share

    Flying in the rain

If you think rain is bad.... Was on an Airbus going into Riyadh, SA. Below about 10,000 feet it looked like red fog outside the window. It was SAND! The plane had a camera in the nose and we could not see the runway until just before we touched down (saw the lights first). Could not see the...

The flights missing in the Bermuda Triangle

NOVA (PBS) did an expose about 15 years ago. A Coast Guard officer was interviewed and recounted a story of a man and woman sailing from Florida to the Bahamas. They were lost and calling for help. The officer asked her which chart she was using for navigation and she replied "the back of the...

Six figure fines for overflying west coast sanctuaries

Anyone know if there are more of these areas? Are they charted? On a recent vacation to Key West my wife and I took a ride in a Bi-plane. At one point the pilot turned away from and Island and said something to the effect "If you fly over the island and a bird takes off, you'll be fined":yikes:

    The Perfect Pilot Shop

I find the on line stores carry tons of variety. However, I am a tactile shopper: I like being able to pick stuff up and look it over. Whenever I am near Nashua, NH (KASH) I stop in at: http://www.wingspilotshop.com/. Lot's of cool stuff.

Why is the Cirrus so dangerous?

How does the Cirrus compare to the Corvalis? I would think they are similar (high performance TAA etc), yet the Corvalis seems to get less "negative press" regarding accident worthiness.

    How many hours?

85 hrs Worst landing was during my Practical Exam. I had a good case of "stage fright". DPE pulled the power on final (in a 152) and said "I'd like to see a power off normal landing". I must have dropped that plane 10 feet, at least the BANG felt like it. DPE yells "You call that a normal...

    Weekend Getaways in Maine?

I second both Bar Harbor and Rockland. Bar Harbor is next to Acadia National Park - the ride a along Otter Creek Rd is spectacular. Near one of the harbors you can sit on a cliff and watch the seagulls and lobster boats. Very peaceful. Rockland has the Owl's Head Museum right on the...

Moving to Boston - what should I look for?

If you are living in North Andover. Lawrence will be the closest airport. Manchester will require a ride up route 93 (30 miles) which can be a pain at the wrong time of day. About 36 miles up 495/95 (have to watch for beach traffic + toll) is Pease (KPSM). Nice loooong runway (10,000 ft)...
