So, homebuilders...who are we and where do we stand?

Congrats! I just ordered the introductory rudder kit for a Zenair CH 801-SD on Monday. Excited to get started after daydreaming about building a plane for years!

Wanted: Club Membership Clubs in St. John’s, NL?

I figured that might be the case, but was hoping there was some hidden GA scene I wasn’t finding. I know the weather isn’t VFR a lot, but was hoping for a way to fly around during the summer when it’s a bit better. Thanks for the info! Maybe I’ll just save my money while I’m there and pay cash...

Wanted: Club Membership Clubs in St. John’s, NL?

I know... this is Pilots of AMERICA and I am asking about Canada... I was just hoping someone here may have some insight. It looks like I’ll be moving to St. John’s for a few years and I am struggling to find anything online about flying clubs or rentals there. It seems pretty straightforward to...

    Mounting IPad in 182

Yep! That’s pretty much what mine looks like. I just bought the $20 no-name version of that type of mount.

    Mounting IPad in 182

I can’t find any pictures that show it at the moment. I am out of town but will try to get a pic next time I go flying.

    Mounting IPad in 182

I use a cheap suction cup mount I picked up at Frys Electronics mounted to the pilot side windshield. (Where the windshield curves to the side..) I’ve flown about 65 or so hours so far in this configuration with no issues. The only drawback is that I have to lean forward just a bit to see the...

is GA dream at all realistic?

Really? $50k for Private and IR?? I only have my private so far, but got it part 61 in the Houston area for right around $10k. I would think Chicago area would be pretty similar cost, but I don't know... To OP: as others have said, if it's something you want to do, go for it. My story is just...

    Feedback on Mooney

Thanks for the replies so far. Will definitely check out Mooney space and look for a Mooney instructor. I just had another thought though... I know a prebuy is the way to go for a full purchase, but do folks normally do anything of that sort when buying into an existing partnership? I plan to...

    Feedback on Mooney

So... I am going to look at an 1963 M20C tomorrow after work and was hoping for some general feedback. Im looking at either a half or third partnership (depending on if the third person comes through). I am a fairly new private pilot with 85 hours so far, but tired of the poor availability and...

First real cross country with the family

If it was just my wife and daughter, no iso switch needed. However, my 5 year old son wakes up talking and talks himself to sleep at night! That switch gives me a few moments of peace!

First real cross country with the family

I had the same concerns, but picked an early morning flight and was ready to scrub if conditions weren't good. Definitely want the first flight to be memorable for the RIGHT reasons!

First real cross country with the family

The first flight I took after getting my private certificate was with the whole family, just 1 hr local sightseeing. I stayed within about 30 miles of the home airport. This gave me a chance to see how everyone handled it. Why not take the whole family up locally before you go so far? Also, with...

Anybody have experience with a Maul M-4?

Ah! I didn't even notice the spec sheet link. Thanks!

Anybody have experience with a Maul M-4?

Sorry to somewhat hijack this thread, but I am still pretty new to looking at airplanes for sale and hope to one day own one rather than renting. I thought I understood total time airframe, but maybe I don't... the ad says "airframe 2760 TT" but later says it was flown about 3200 hrs in the past...

US student pilot logging time in Canada?

Good point. Fort McMurray. Currently too cold for seaplane but not enough snow for Ski Plane. Sounds like a weekend in the hotel for me, at least on this trip. One follow up to you last post though... What is the benefit to holding both a US and a Canadian PPL? You can fly a US registered plane...

US student pilot logging time in Canada?

Makes sense. I guess I'll have to wait until Spring or summer if I am back up there (which seems likely since I keep getting sent to Canada for projects...)

US student pilot logging time in Canada?

Thanks for the reference! Maybe I'll log some time if I'm back in the Spring or summer once it's back above freezing.

US student pilot logging time in Canada?

I agree it's quite a commute, especially when corporate travel routes you from Fort McMurray to Toronto (where I just landed) to Houston! I guess it is cheaper to zig zag south!

US student pilot logging time in Canada?

Bummer... I guess I'll stay in the hotel all weekend... Still interested in the logging questio though, as it seems I'll be coming here periodically for a while. Thanks!

US student pilot logging time in Canada?

A quick google search and search of the forms didn't yield an answer, so hopefully I am not missing something that's been covered here before. I am a checkride ready student pilot who has been unable to schedule my checkride lately due to being out of the country for work a lot recently. Hoping...
