Road Bump in Buying a Plane - No Place to Put It

I have a T-hangar near Pensacola (2R4- Milton, FL) and was on the waitlist for 2 years. I was working in the hangar one afternoon and noticed a truck pulling a boat on the taxiway. I drove past where the truck was going and saw an open hangar with 2 Bass Tracker type boats inside. T-hangar...

    Front Range flying

Thanks for the advice. I actually just put my name on the waitlist for their covered tie downs at KFLY. As you said, hangars are scarce out there (they are in NW FL too- I was on a waitlist for 2 years before I got one). At KCOS, they're $700/month with a waitlist. I was thinking about...

    Front Range flying

Adding to the OP's question. I'm moving from the FL Panhandle to Colorado Springs next summer. I have a 160 HP Warrior and I wanted to get some advice on whether that will be usable out there. Obviously planning on taking a mountain flying course. Any other advice you all could offer...

    Reporting Physical Therapy

Got the same condition from trail running. PT did dry-needling. Shish kebab skewers (at least what it felt like) through the calf muscles and another through the tendons. Definitely don't recommend...

    San Antonio Airport/FBO recommendations wanted

Sorry for the necro-post. Planning to fly the Warrior from the FL Panhandle to southern AZ and planning a stop in San Antonio next month. Any fresh recommendations for San Antonio airports/FBOs?

    Florida aircraft owners w/outdoor tiedowns.

I live in the FL Panhandle and unfortunately the Warrior is on the ramp waiting for a T-hangar to become available. My plan is to fly north if we have one coming this way. I just took a look at my insurance policy from Old Republic (brokered by Assured Aerospace) and this is what it says...

    St. Simons Island (KSSI) PIREPS

SSI is great. Recommend checking out Jekyll Island as well. Really nice small airport with a company called, Red Bug on the field that rents golf carts that you can take around the island. Worse thing about SSI and the rest of the Golden Isles are the "no see-um" biting gnats.

    Another rental car thread

I had a couple recent trips in FL where I've had Enterprise deliver the rental car to the FBO. The Enterprise folks told me they could do that if I had the Enterprise Plus app with a credit card on file (I guess so they're not just dumping off the rental car at the airport and no one picks it...

    Taylorcraft down California

I think the ultimate lesson here is to avoid enraging the "internet". They will pull all stops to come after you. There's a really good documentary on Netflix called, "Dont F#@% with Cats". About someone who posted a video abusing some kittens and people all over the world rallied to...

Rain pooling in back of cabin

I have a Piper Warrior that is parked outside in Florida (I'm #70 on the hangar waitlist...). It's spent a good bit of its life tied down in one coastal area or another and it's holding up pretty well on "death row". It's hard being hangar-less, but I disagree tie down planes are doomed...

    Garmin 375/175 help

There's a pretty good Garmin 175/355/375 simulator app that was really helpful in learning the 355. Search in the app store for "Garmin GPS Trainer".

    Garmin Databases

I have a GNC 355 and a GI-275 (CDI- but also included is a map function, terrain, and a HSI mode). A one-time full database update came with the 355 so I used that for the GI-275, then bought a nav subscription for the 355. It was a few hundred cheaper and I don't need the nav data, obstacles...

Does Mike Busch have this one right?

It's probably somewhere between 2-3x fuel costs/hr for my Warrior which based on that math, it's true renting would be more cost effective than owning. But I'm sure many of you would agree that there are intangibles that make owning vs. renting worth it that you just can't spreadsheet. Being...

Sleep overnight in small GA airports pilot lounge?

Absolutely. I stopped for gas at a small town airport in central Texas and wound up having to stay overnight due to T-storms. They had a lock box with the keys to the courtesy car with instructions to call the police department to get the code to the lock box. I was able to drive into town to...

IFR Current - Spacial D freakout

I think the hood/foggles helps with developing and maintaining a scan, but nothing is better during IR training than experiencing real IMC flight.
