Top Altitude lower than MEA on SID

This is an RNAV SID but you can do it using any RNAV 1 equipment, which doesn't necessarily mean GPS. If you have DME/DME/IRU RNAV then you will be picking up IAH and DAS vortacs to identify MUSIQ, and IAH (at DME 88) and LFK to get VELCO. The MEA of 12000, I'm thinking, is to give you enough...

Top Altitude lower than MEA on SID

Thanks - I watched the video, which was informative. I assume you are referencing 91.177(1) here where the MOCA is your legal minimum, but doesn't technically become the MEA. So I see no problem filing this SID with a filed altitude of 7000.

Top Altitude lower than MEA on SID

I am trying to understand the altitudes on the LURIC2 departure from KSGR. https://skyvector.com/files/tpp/1509/pdf/05537LURIC.PDF What is the meaning of the "Top Altitude: 4000" annotation at the top of the plate? I assume the large difference between MOCAs and MEAs along the route is...

    ATC contact in Class C/D

The OP cited the example of doing touch and gos. AIM 4-3-22 indicates the pilot should make this request on entering downwind. I would have thought each lap of the pattern would reset this requirement. Is there a controller perhaps who can lend their thoughts?

    ATC contact in Class C/D

When doing touch and gos at GTU I tell tower where I'm at when I reach midfield. Sometimes they beat me to it, sometimes it is busy and I can't get a word in until I'm turning base. My feeling is I'd rather have a landing clearance early than have to worry about the radio when I'm at a high...

    IFR with expired database

Not my plane, and the fbo plans to update tomorrow. I checked the GTN afm supplement and it says no problem for enroute as long as you verify, but for a GPS approach, you need a current database. Thanks for the help y'all.

    IFR with expired database

I've heard the same. Does anyone have regs to back this up?

    IFR with expired database

Is it still legal to file ifr with a GTN 750 with an expired database if you file and fly /U? That would mean sticking to airways and using the nav receiver instead of the GPS too.

    Central Texas destinations

Hi, I'm based at GTU (Georgetown TX, near Austin) and I've done all the obvious $100 meals: 11R, T82, AQO, SEP. Does anyone have suggestions for new places to try? :dunno: Cheers David
