Why is my mechanic so against a turbo?

My mechanic hates a turbo Mooney. Not because of the maintenance required, but because of the difficulty. Mooney packed an entire airplane into a small, tidy package. Add a turbo, and even an oil change becomes a headache working among all the bits & pieces with no room for fingers in between.

What DON'T I know about paint?

Paint dries quickly, but doesn't totally cure for several days. In between, the solvents in the fresh coat will soften the base coat, turning it into a crinkly, gooey mess. A few light coats, sprayed just a few minutes apart works best. I usually spray about four coats, last one about...

Is there a combo garage door opener / Car key fob?

Why does the car that stays outside need a garage door opener? Does your house have any alternative ways to enter? A front door perhaps?

    Aluminum Rib - Work Hardening?

You are only bending it once. In several small steps, but only one bend. Work hardening happens when bent back and forth several times. If you formed it, then pounded it back flat again, and formed it again several times, you may cause a problem. Ya got no reason to worry

    IFR in C152 Approach Speeds

I recommend using flaps during instrument training. It gives the student plenty of time to open up the textbooks and study for the written while on final approach.

    Grant assurances; history of penalization

When one leases a car, at the end of the lease term, the dealership expects to get the car back. In your opinion, did the dealership steal the car? I've owned a few hangars subjected to a ground lease. The closing documents clearly spell out the terms of the ground lease. The buyer is well...

I want to get a medical but I'm scared

Best thing you can do to prove to yourself and the FAA that you're worthy of a medical is to bring the schoolwork up to an excellent level, in spite of having difficult teachers. Successful people learn to perform well even in difficult situations. When you are ready for your checkride, you...

Will an airplane engine failure on takeoff cause an aerodynamic stall?

Airplanes with a high thrust line, like the Lake Buccaneer or BD-5 will pitch nose up if power is lost. Better be quick with forward stick when close to the ground.

    New Narragansett RI TFR

Whoever has the broadcast rights doesn't want drones in their pictures, and they don't want competing videos showing up on YouTube.

    Credit card

I absolutely refuse to do any business with amex, as either merchant or customer. Won't take the time to explain why, but I absolutely stay away. That being said, I won't carry any card that has a yearly fee. Lots of free cards out there, why pay any fee at all? $295/year? Notachance

Apparently we have run out of things to argue about

"The Doors" sold 34 million albums in the US, and over 100 million records worldwide. How many wheels on their tour bus?

    Favorite conspiracy theories

NASA hired Stanley Kubrick to create the fake moon landing. He was such a stickler for accuracy, he insisted it be shot on site.

    ACF-50 seepage/weepage and hangar

If fluid seeps, an excessive amount was used. Spray very lightly. I have treated my airplane a few times and have never had a drop afterwards.

Just make sure it is parked next to the hose.

    Propeller windmilling, the truth

I'll take a stab at this... Two major differences- 1- The percentage of the propeller's "disc" that is occupied by the blades shows a stationary prop on a ship will cause far more drag than the thin blades of an airplane's prop. 2- A ship has forward, reverse, and... neutral. When in...

Does Mike Busch have this one right?

Just fill up at the $3.85 rate before bringing it in for the annual inspection. That should keep the costs down.

    NORDO Crop Dusters

Ag pilots are not paid by the hour, but by acres sprayed. Not only will they make straight-in approaches to avoid downwind/base/final, but they will land where it minimizes taxi time to their station. If our refueling/reloading station is at the East end of the airport, we will land to the East...

VIDEO: CTSW Crash from Germany, 2 Injured

Big mistake in that video. "Pilot and passenger"? There was no pilot. Just two passengers.
