Can a drone related violation result in cert action?

That is a great question. It might depend on whether the drone was being flown for fun (recreational) or under a commercial operation. Under the 333 Exemption required for any type of commercial ops (photography, inspection, etc.), the operator of the controls must be a licensed pilot. In that...

    Carbon monoxide

Skip - I use the stick-on detectors and they work. During a routine panel scan shortly after takeoff I noticed the color had changed to sky blue. It was the first cool morning of the season and the first time I had flown with all the fresh air vents closed. I immediately opened both wing vents...

My Attempt at a $115 ADS-B Receiver Build for Foreflight

There is an interesting thread on the Stratux board. The original poster says absolutely yet one guy is questioning its function from a programmatic perspective. For $16 may be worth taking the chance. I'm going to order one. If you don't need AHRS...an alternative to RY835AI...

My Attempt at a $115 ADS-B Receiver Build for Foreflight

@Scrabo: Someone recently posted a link to this USB GPS dongle as a simpler alternative to the RY835AI (if one did not want AHRS). Any thoughts as to how well this might work / fit in the case? http://amzn.com/B00NWEEWW8

    FlyQ and holding

No guarantees, but the feature below (as explained in the FlyQ FAQ), combined with the earlier suggestions, might be a way to get where you want: --- You can enter a lat/lon as relative to a navaid or fix by using the navaid or fix ident, a slash, a radial (or bearing for a fix), and a...

My Attempt at a $115 ADS-B Receiver Build for Foreflight

Jim - did the red power LED on the Pi blink once in awhile? If so, its not getting the power needed and the first device to "brownout" are the USB connections (even though they may appear to be "lit"). Does the adapter you changed to have more than one socket? Sometimes the sockets have...

Can this headliner zipper be repaired in place?

Leo - also fly an older 172 ('64) that has the original headliner. Once a tear starts in that old vinyl its only going to get worse the more you handle it. My Attempt at a $115 ADS-B Receiver Build for Foreflight

If you shutdown the StraTux server via SSH there is still power going to the Pi, but you've lost your WiFi connection. So at that point unplug the power, plug back in and let the system reboot. However, if while up and running you find a need to to restart the StraTux, you could issue: sudo...

Or, simply SSH to the device using a free SSH client such as ServerAuditor and issue: sudo shutdown -h now (or even simpler) sudo init 0 You'll see the lights go off on the antenna dongle and WiFi adapter. Then you can safely pull power.
