Time to name drop

Yawn....

They are all just people. I meet people all the time.

Ed Whitson. Former San Diego Padres Pitcher. Probably not too well known outside of old time Padres fans. Although I think he went on to the Yankees. Anyway I met him at a bar after a game. It was in Mira Mesa which is odd because it's not close to the stadium and I doubt he lived anywhere near there.

I'm not bragging, but, yes - I've met 6PC.
And TedDupuis, Mtns2Skies, Pilawt, DaveTheisen, HalfFast, Evil Eagle, and more.

Mainstream celebrities? (Relatively speaking):
Michael Goulian! Scott Pruett! (My favorites! Both impressive professionals and truly good people, in my experience.)
Brian Redman, Alain de Cadenet, Steve Young, Emerson Fittipaldi, Bob Hoover, and I had breakfast with John and Martha King last Thursday.

(Many others, too, but not gonna take the time to recall them all.)

Padres and Mariners do their spring training just down the street from me. I'm not a baseball fan but kinda know who the guys are when I see them in a restaurant or bar just by the way the crowd acts.

I was sitting in the car wash one day next to a nice young man and he was asking me what there is to do in the area. I told him some of the various places to go and whatnot. All the while we were talking all these little kids kept coming up to him asking him for his autograph. I finally formally introduced myself and asked him if he was famous or something. His name was Ken Griffey Jr. and he said... "I guess I might be, but I sure don't know for how long". I thought that was pretty funny.

Here's a few names for us old dudes & dudettes. From my days as an IMG sub-contractor: Martina Navratilova & Chris Evert. I escorted Billy Jean King thru a crowd court-side at a tournament in Houston, TX. This was well after she had retired and late in the careers of the others.

Just last summer at my first ever Oshkosh event, Harrison walked past at the sea plane base -impressive how diminutive he is. And then as I was walking up the road in the North 40 just past the restroom/showers facility Ariel Tweeto walked by with a friend.

Martina's personal masseuse offered me a massage for carrying her table but I shyly declined. I really regret that!

20+ years in the corporate world.... too many to name.

Back in the '70's Wernher von Braun walked into our three man r&d lab at Fairchild Space and Electronics. Got to shake his hand and explain some of our process's for making limited packaged hybrid electronic parts and pieces for different customer's satellites. Nice guy asked good questions. While working in California attended a ground breaking where Jimmy Doolittle did the honers for the building to be built in his name.. Also attended a lecture by Edward Teller....Met Ronald Reagan in his office while he was Gov. in Calif.

Many years ago ...

My grandfather was a Prudential Insurance agent. Comedian Bud Abbott was one of his customers and lived just a couple of blocks from him. My grandfather took me to meet Bud on one of his calls.

Movie producer Frank King -- played by John Goodman in the recent film Trumbo -- was my great-aunt's fiancé for over thirty years (you read that right; Aunt Helen was quite a character), and was at the head of the family dinner table every Sunday evening while I was growing up. After dinner we'd all adjourn to the den to watch Maverick, Lawman, The Rebel, Bonanza, or whatever other TV westerns were on at the time.

Who is Scott Pruett? Flying into PHX today a pilot was filing an IFR flight plan with center in the air. His name was Scott Pruett. Same guy?

Working, as flight line supervisor, at Falcon Jet Terminal, at Teterboro, NJ.... Let's see....
John Travolta, Oprah, Sally Field, Merv Griffin, Ronald and Nancy Reagan, Bruce Springsteen, Lech Valesa, Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith, Joan Rivers, Stalone, Dave and Wendy Thomas, Mother Teresa... A few more, I'm sure

I took a leak at the urinal next to Kurt Vonnegut before his talk at Texas Tech back in 1986. We nodded "hello" to one another. No, I didn't peek to see if he had a "tremendous wang" a la Billy Pilgrim. :D

After 30 years of working in airports across the country, I'd have to agree. Most are just regular folk, and some are ****oles, I've met both. I even covered the VIP arrivals gig sometimes at several hubs.

The two airports I worked in that had the most celeb/power politician traffic were Monterey/MRY, and surprisingly, South Bend/SBN.

Walesa was one of the more memorable people I have met, and actually had a short conversation with, on a European street, of all places.

I did get a chance to hang out with Russel Crow once... I was setting up my catamaran on the beach getting ready to go sailing and he just comes up and starts asking some questions about the boat. I asked him if he wanted to go for a ride and off we went... Never asked him what he did, but he did say he was from "don un-ner"

I had no idea who he was until someone pointed it out me later... even then I still had no idea who he was until I saw LA Confidential.

Pretty nice bloke.. should have taken him up on the offer to grab a few "amber stubbies" afterwards...

Monterey I get with the proximity to Carmel, Pebble Beach, etc.... but South Bend??? Must be that little catholic college there... what do the call it.. Notre something?

Scott Pruett is very successful sports car racing driver who also has a winery and writes children's books with his wife. http://www.scottpruett.com/
Probably not the same guy you met. I met Scott when he did a demo 'racing' an Eclipse 550 VLJ against a Lexus LFA at KLMO in Longmont, CO, plus have seen him driving in a few races.

Scott Pruett, Michael Goulian and Steve Young (the football quarterback) impress me as consummate professionals who are extremely good at what they do both on and off their fields of contest.

Total coincidence. They were staying at our hotel at Sun N Fun and I spotted them in the dining area. It was pretty crowded, so I sat at the table next to them. Started a conversation mostly to impress my colleagues. Asked John what he was most impressed by and the plane he'd most like to fly from everything in attendance. (Surprisingly, his response was he really liked his Falcon 10.)
My tribal name is "Talks With Strangers."

Mulligan! I met Mulligan!

And..... Elvis, yesterday.

When I saw your avatar, reminded me that I met Bill Murray, Geena Davis (young and hot), and Randy Quaid (as wacky in real life as the National Lampoons movies). I was a kid like 11 or 12. They were shooting a movie that nobody ever saw called "Quick Change". It was summer and my friends and I hung out near the set all day pretty much. They were very cool, invited us to hang with them during breaks on the set, have lunch etc. We were little kids, it was late 80's.

A few years later, they shot "Sleepers" in the park where I played basketball. I "met" (read: walked by) Robert Deniro, Brad Pitt, and the other guys in the movie. And Minnie Driver (20+ years ago).
