The raster is unnecessary in a light GA aircraft and as I said TO ME it takes away from the joy of feeling the aircraft and enjoying the aircraft.

I just don't get it I guess. Fly by feel or fly by toys. I prefer feel in a GA aircraft. Otherwise it's not enjoyable to me.

I agree with the Right Said EdFred guy. You should be able to find that on the sectional in seconds.
That being said. Ask for a vector and identifier if you need it. ATC can and will give you the info you need.
Most students find the Pipers to be a bit easier to land and control on the ground. I learned in a raggedy old 172 and it got the job done. I think you'll be fine with any of the entry level aircraft.
