2012

Flying commercial to somewhere near, you'd shoot for Fayetteville, AR, or Springfield, MO.

Little Rock is nearest with really major air carrier service.

Or, of course, you can coordinate with someone else who's going there, fly to where they are and fly in the rest of the way with them.

My sister-in-law, Alison, flew into Branson from Dallas Executive, then we flew over there and picked her up. The GA terminal is right next to the secure area, making it convenient. It also has the COOLEST log-cabin-style GA terminal!

There are a number of airlines flying directly there, now, including AirTran, Frontier, and Branson Air Express.

Here's a sample of the city pairs that AirTran supports for this winter; the schedule will change for summer, but gets you some idea of the hub cities you could connect through.

Or, get yourself to Dallas and I'm sure you could fly up with Spike or Dave in the Bo or Twin Bo. :idea:

There's a fairly good chance I won't make it in 2012, and will instead be in Washington state learning to paraglide with my brother-in-law, while visiting my sister and her family. Might get to see Dee, though--will be in the Cashmere/Wenatchee area. Will have to get over and check out Stewart Systems while I'm there, too.

NO!

That would interfere with the 6Y9 fly-in!

I would really rather have 6Y9 around July fourth weekend. The weather is better, it stays light until almost eleven pm, there are fresh wild blueberries the pilots can pick right on the airport. Moving gastons to September would be a win win. Nicer weather in both places.

Works for me!!

Jesse, why is there a countdown for the Gastons Fly-In at the top of POA but no countdown for the next 6Y9 Fly-In?

Because it's manual and requires me to go in and update it and I'm a human and forget to do that.

Hell, I have a wall map that shows Mountain Home. No need for a chart. Memphis is probably the best bet.

MEMPHIS? That's on the other end of the state. If you want a big airport not so far away, Little Rock would be considerably closer.

There is a regional airport near Fayetteville that is good for commercial and GA. It would probably be your best bet.

Are you going to attend in 2012? It would be good to meet you, though now lots of folks are trying to talk me into the Fly-B-Q (May).

Unlike you, Jesse really exists!

Didn't you hear I met another POA pilot this week, who was in CA for a business trip? And I showed him my Pilot Cert for reals? You are hopeless . . . the more you say I don't exist the more I wonder if you exist.

You mean the one you took to Mexico in your jet? Yeah, we have your number now! I mean, how gullible do you think we really are?
:D::rofl:

Hey now. He was trying to make the trip sound more exciting. After all, I had the 152 reserved for 4 days and we didn't get to fly at all. We drove more than 2 hours there and back to the airport on the final day, and I even took that day off work, all for nothing.

And same with my in-person meeting of POAer Matthew Teller. Had to spice up the "I sat in an Avanti today" story.

Wait, I met you already - at least you know I exist.

Kimberly Anne I am in Oregon, and would like to go to Gastons. Could you swing up this way and pick up an old man and give him a ride back there. I am getting a little old to make that trip in my old airplane any more but would sure like to make it back there one more time. I am not like Spike and some of those flirty guys. I just need a ride. Bob.

Hey, I've seen your pictures - you look plenty exciting as you are!

Thanks but I haven't flown since October (except last week for my first ever solo flight since PPL - three landings at 10pm to get night current).

Not sure if you knew this, but if I go to Gaston's (right now that is a big if) I will go on a commercial flight. Not sure how I could "pick you up" as I've never flown more than 105 nm away from my home airport, and can't afford to do so anytime soon. Flying is just too expensive.

Sorry but you will have to get there on your own!

Kimberly

I figure, Bob's coming from Oregon, maybe a way works you fly with him. He's the perfect gentleman, defined.

Spike, there are things going on that I cannot post about in a public forum. These things will directly affect my ability to go or not go to Gaston's. And in reality, I won't know until it is MUCH closer to June.

So I am not sure about Bob, or about me. But if he meant we could go in his plane then yes that would be my biggest aviation adventure so far and I'd be thrilled.

Kimberly

Well lets see I have made the trip east. 2 times from Oregon to IL. 3 times from Oregon to AR. 2 times from Oregon to AZ. Maybe I could make one more trip. Kimberlyann where are you located in CA? you would have to get to Vale, OR. somehow. That is if I can make the trip.

I am located very close to (and can get rides to) SFO, OAK, and SJO.

So I live / work in the SF area - Sausalito / Mill Valley to be exact. I will send you a private message with the reasons I might not be able to make it.

Otherwise, sounds like an adventure. I have people here who can watch my dog while I'm away.

If things work out the way I hope they do, then I might get to fly back to Gastons. again this summer. I will have to see how things progress as the time arrives. Getting you to Vale might be the biggest challenge. ( I sent you a PM.)

Thanks for the PM, but it sounds like we both have a large number of unpredictable challenges ahead. And as I mentioned in my PM, there are things I can't post in front of everyone, which may be coming up in the next few months and would affect my ability to go on any vacations for a long time.

I understand and we will just have to see how it works out. If I could go down and visit my daughter I would be in your area. Sometimes what we want to do,and what we get to do are not the same things. I know I would like to get back there again.

It looks as if I'll be missing out. I double booked myself for that week and will be in San Francisco 6/2 then heading South all that week to LA, helping out with the Aids Life Cycle event. Maybe next year.

If you are in San Francisco and would like to fly in my rental plane over the Golden Gate Bridge the invite is there. Sounds like you may not be here long enough though.

Guessing-game:

1. Pregnant;
2. Adopting a Sudanese orphan, a la that other, almost as famous, pilot, Angelina Jolie;
3. On the short list to be appointed the Ambassador to France;
4. Coming out of the closet for Kim Kardashian; or
5. Buying a remote island in the southern Bahamas, will be busy getting crushed-coral airstrip prepared and entertaining Trumps...

None of that I bet: it's an election year. Lord knows either major party could use a better presidential candidate than the ones currently running.

Oh my God you guys it is much simpler than that. I am not pregnant and I am not the president.

Pedestrian things, like working or paying down debts or whatever, isn't nearly as much fun to ponder.

But if you pledge to lower taxes, increase government spending, balance the budget, increase government oversight of business while reducing government interference in the free market, I'm sure you'll have a good shot at getting into office! :D
