So now that the Wx is getting better has anyone formulated any good flying plans for the summer? If so what are they?

Finally do my doggone PP-G check ride, start flying the single-seater, and maybe get in some tow plane time.

That, and hang out by the fuel pump with my thumb out. :D

UPDATE:
Not even officially summer yet, and I have one item checked off... :D

I've got a couple of things on my list. Mid April, a co-owner (I'm trainable Wayne) and I are going to the mid-west. I'm dropping him off in Madison WI and I'm off to Detroit.

I also stopped taking on new students and plan to take August and September off and get in another cross country or two. I still have Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont to get my 48 states.

The fantasy is to finally get my glider rating, if I have time.

Joe

Some guys just catch on quicker than others. I'm planning to attend the 180 Convention in Branson, hope to make some of the Idaho back-country fly-ins, maybe New England in the fall.

Since when did the weather get better? Oh yeah, sunbelt flying, my bad.

After passing my IR checkride, I'd like to fly around Lake Michigan, and stay overnight on Mackinac Island.

I'm gonna spend it all under the foggles.:frown3:

I hope to take a week or so and make this round robin trip:

Summer2010Trip11-1.jpg

I plan to stop/camp in Gillette Wy, Jackson Hole Wy, Salmon Id, McCall Id, Layton Ut (north SLC), and then back home.

I'll be up to 6Y9 a few times. If May 1 counts as the beginning of summer, I'll be to PA and NM. Going to fly the Hudson corridor this summer too - in formation.

You're still planning to stop at the farm, right?? :yesnod: Kim said she would like to fly down to meet you when you do.

Instead of dealing with icing concerns, I'll be dealing with thunderstorm concerns. :)

Get MEI, get CFII, maybe do a bit more instructing. And, of course, attend as many of the PoA fly-ins as I can. Probably miss Osh.

Well, so far I'm on track for my goals and flying hours this year, so next on the list....

Late April-May -- Tailwheel Endorsement in a Citabria (already scheduled)
May -- Wings FlyBQ (signs are still in my garage :yesnod: )
June -- First Flight Review Time
Oct -- Windwood

I'll be joining the QPA group a few more times for those breakfast runs, cause that was a great time. My wife wants to go as well, so soon we'll have someone watch Madison (2 mo. old) so she can join me and the girls.

Somewhere in there I'll more officially start the flight training portion of the IR. I'm studying now and occasionally doing an hour in the Simulator. Goal is to have the IR before needing another Flight Review.

memorial day and labor day with the glider in Ulysses, KS
fly glider as much as possible in between
gastons
finish up my students in the 150
finish up a few glider students, including leah, and get them into single seaters and maybe going cross country.

SnF
Osh
Local fly ins
and fill in my US flight map with a trip to the east coast, next year Alaska!

In order:
  1. Take CFII Checkride NLT April 30th (I mean it!) :skeptical:
  2. Fly Chief to Lancaster (Keller Brothers, 08N) and back
  3. Fly to at least one PoA fly-in
  4. Fly Chief to Potsdam, NY (KPTD) and back
  5. Fly to Quebec City
  6. Log at least 50 hours instruction time
  7. Join Bandel Glider club

I'm flying to Wings for the big barbecue!

I'll be learning to fly formation, and flying with 49 other Cherokees to Oshkosh.

Other than that I'll wing it.

Yes we are. The determining factor is weather. I have 2 routes planned one through Albuquerque south of the Rockies and one through Cheyenne north of the Rocks. We'll get 2 tries, with luck (mine) you'll get to see us twice.

I hope I get to meet Kim.

Joe

Hmmm
Gold Distance (300km xc flight in the glider)
Gold Altitude (3000m altitude gain) I may need to leave WI for that though
Wings
Gaston's
6Y9
CFI-G

Fixed that for ya:D. Seriously SW PA to Wings is an easy flight. Heck if your going to LNS its maybe another 40 min in the champ.

CHIEF!! CHIEF!!!!!

A champ is the poor, slow sibling of the far superior side-by-side Chief!

:yesnod:

Anyway, at 48 nm, that works out to an additional hour flight time.

(Can you land in the grass at LOM?)

But I will review the calendar and see if we can work that out.

:yesnod:

Go to Ft. Collins, Colo. to visit my God Daughter then Boulder an old school friend that I haven't seen since we were in our twenties.
Visit friends in Ft. Worth and Kerrville.

(Kevin, my husband, will be at sea as crew sailing from Antigua to Athens, Greece starting April 27 and not returning till Jun 9th so I'll have solo time to fly around)

Learn more aerobatics in the Decathlon - give rides when I'm proficient enough to have passengers :yesnod:

Go to Port Aransas to see Jay's "new" motel.

Of course, the most wonderful irony is I will schlep all the way to the outskirts of Philadelphia, and I don't even eat barbecue!:rofl::rofl::rofl:

I'll eat your portion and tell you how good it is. As the resident mutant, it's part of my duty. :D

My plans:

- Fly the raffle plane to as many Fly-ins and airshows as I can.
- Take a flight in Hawaii while I'm there in June.
- Get some G1000 time.
- Maybe start on the IR, but not bloody likely as I have to save money for my wedding next March.

Attend and possibly fly in the Ephrata Dust Up (Fun Sailplane Race) on Memorial Day Weekend. (usually 3-4 days of soaring)

Fly in the Region 8 Soaring Championship (Race) over the 4th of July (usually 5-6 days of soaring)

Attend the Alvord Desert Glider encampment for at least a couple days and ground launch off the dry lake.

Attend the Mackay, Idaho Soaring Safari (2 weeks in August)
while there...
Make at least 1 attempt at winning the annual 300km triangle speed trophy (I won it two years ago at ~64mph)
Make at least 1 attempt and 500km flight (Diamond Distance) perhaps an FAI triangle

Attend at least part of the King Moutain, Idaho Soaring encampment in late August.

My stretch goal for the year is break 100hrs in the glider. Usually I am between 50-75 hrs per year.

Brian

Fly to Nome for the heck of it.

Fly the wife to the Beringia Museum in Whitehorse.

Seaplane rating.

Other than that...just fly.

I am planning to depart North Las Vegas (VGT) on 1 May with a T-41B, destination Augusta Me (AUG). Stops at Alamosa CO (ALS), Plattsmouth NE (PMV), Green County Dayton OH (I19), Elmira NY (ELM), Basin Harbor Vt (B09)

Returning to VGT via Norwood MA (OWD), First Flight SC (FFA), Tulahoma TN (THA), Sulfur Springs TX (SLR), Moriarity NM (0E0).. Hope to be back by 15 May.

At the moment my solid plans are to:

1. Fly to NY next week to check out an airplane I'm thinking of buying.
2. Finish the IR.
3. Meet up with some PoAers. (Hi Bruce. :))

But if I do buy an airplane, then lots of possibilities come to mind, such as (in no particular order):

4. Beaver Island (I've never been there and always wanted to go).
5. At least one trip to GLR to visit friends.
6. Get back to MCD.
7. Meetups yet to be announced within 300 nm.
8. Maybe Gastons, 6Y9, ...

Liz, given that you're in Michigan, you should be legally required to attend 6Y9. ;)

You seem to be circling around PA... is there just something you don't like about the PA POA people?

that sounds like fun.

My 2011 plans involve the Vintage Contest in Lawrenceville, IL and Region 9 North in Logan, UT. Maybe the region 10 contest too depending on when/where. Leah and I did our first soaring camp last year over Labor Day in Ulysses, KS and had an absolute blast. I'm excited to have the glider/truck/trailer all ready to go so I can travel...

I haven't flown at Logan yet, even though our local group of pilots usually go down there the weekend after labor day and fly. I hear it is a great place to get some Ridge soaring in.

adam kite, a sometimes poster here, is a good friend and former student who is now an instructor there. from all reports it seems like a good place to fly.

The last time I set foot in the Yoop was over 30 years ago... most of us Downstaters don't even think of it as part of Michigan. ;)

I mean, do folks there even speak English?

Ducks and runs...
