Ordered new Tecnam P2010

Is the training purely VFR or will you do some IFR work in it, as well? (That one cloud in the sky made me think of it.)
The clouds were few so no issue, just very windy but mostly down the runway. Training is VFR only, and a long day including a little night...

Something about your paint just looked familiar somehow. And then it hit me, I think that combination in those color tones was one of the factory schemes for the Grumman Tiger.

That's neat, thanks for sharing! One thing I like about the new Tecnam is I can pick the color choices. And since this came from Italy I picked Ferrari red with sapphire blue racing stripes. You gotta love the red, white and blue!

So, how does it fly?
It's amazing. Very responsive. Glides through crosswinds. Climbs very well, even in 80s weather today. Very easy to control when being buffeted from weather. Rudder is very sensitive and stabilizer is very responsive.

The interior is very quiet and the visibility is outstanding.

Finished all insurance required training today! Tomorrow, the 18th, I start the journey back to SoCal. Some weather to the north that I'm hoping is gone later tomorrow morning.

Gotta love a plane controlled by fingertips.

Give us a holler when you get to Georgetown and I'll run out to take a look!

I'm sure it will draw plenty of attention!

Did not make it out of Sebring today, cold front crossing Florida from west to east blocked my route between Gainesville and Tallahassee.

Making another attempt tomorrow, Saturday.

Don't make him feel bad. It's pretty much severe clear across the ENTIRE US.....except for Sebring. :(

I was hinting that we have clear weather, bright blue skies, long runway and picturesque scenery that is good for taking pictures with a brand new plane... and not that far out of the way from the original course... :yesnod::yesnod:

Had a tecnam taxi by this afternoon and thought it was you, similar paint job. but it wasn't, you were up in Gainesville already.

Yes we made it to Gainesville about 4pm and then to Tallahassee about 6pm. Yes just Sebring area was the worse for so.long, headed N/W about 1500 feet and broke out to severe clear!

Depart in the morning tomorrow, lunch in Baton Rouge and spend the night in Austin (hopefully)!

You'll have to excuse me for a moment. I have to wipe the drool from my chin.

:D

Looks like u r enjoying the ride…

Nice!

That seems like an awful lot of down-trim, though.

Congratulations on your purchase. She’s a beautiful bird.

Well we made it to Austin, however, lots of head winds and then low clouds. Decided to add a fuel stop at KBXA in Louisiana. Then decided to go past Baton Rouge to Chennault International Airport KCWF in Louisiana for another fuel stop and pilot lunch of ice cream drumsticks and ice cream sandwiches (compliments of millionaire).

From there pretty much direct to Austin Executive airport KEDC and because of whether we got no higher than 2,900 ft.

Tomorrow we're off to Pecos Texas for a brisket burrito then El Paso Texas for the night.

It’s a very cool plane and I’m happy for you, so I don’t mean to poop in the punch bowl, but I’m really struggling to understand how you could be burning 14gph and going 123 knots. Is that right? It looks like you could definitely lean it out based on your temps, but still - it just seems like that plane ought to be slicker than that.

I’d like to see the book cruise charts for best power at 7000ish - I wonder if that would look a little better. Full rich isn’t very efficient, certainly.

Wow what a day! Delayed getting out of Austin TX KEDC due to weather and finally a take off with 17 kt crosswind. I headed to Pecos Texas for fuel and brisket burrito and ran into significant headwind and cross wind.

Saw moisture in the air near Pecos KPEQ and as I neared there was light rain but still VFR. Tried to land but too large a cross wind not enough rudder so aborted and headed over to Winkler County Texas KINK landed without issues. 4.0 on the Hobbs and filled up the tanks (61 gallon usable tanks).

Ready to go and checked El Paso weather and it was IFR with 50 mph wind and dust storms in the area. Obviously a no go. No hotel or taxi in Winkler so short flight (.5) over to Monahans Texas E01 where I found an outstanding FBO and borrowed a crew car to a local hotel.

So tomorrow Tuesday 2/22 I hope to be off early to El Paso. Then to Chandler Arizona. TAF looks promising.

Photo of plane below is at Winkler...

Wow what a day!
Hi.
I was doing some planning when I looked at the area you were in, and I got very concerned, there was some nasty stuff out there. I have some pics from skyvector and flightaware, if you want them as souvenirs? At least you now know what it can handle.
I am glad you are OK, just take your time the next couple of days are going to be busy Wx wise.

I wince when I see a plane tied down like that. Especially a nice one.

Welcome to Texas!! :D Seriously the high in Austin today is 84... tomorrow's high will be 43 with a low of 30!!

I once landed a Cessna 140 in Pecos. I was flying back from Arizona and the winds picked up after I was past El Paso and there aren't many options out that way. I landed on 27 and turned onto 32 during the rollout, trying not to ball it up. When I slowly taxied up to the ramp, I found the guy who ran the FBO standing at a tiedown spot with a chain and he hooked it up to the plane. I was sweating and glad to be on the ground. He was used to it and simply asked me if I wanted to take the courtesy car to the hotel that night! He sold the business, but you still a great place to stop. Too bad you had to miss it.

Hi.
If you read his message you can understand that this was Not a planned first or even second stop. There are times, especially when dealing with ma nature when you have to accept what you can get.
If you fly long enough you will find that at times you have to make some choices that are not to your liking regardless on how hard you are trying.

LOTS of wind in northwest New Mexico today.

Hope it is better in the south.
