Gaston's 2008 Departure Thread

well Kaye is filed, should be here around 1:30

and she's landed.....30 min late. my gps/nav switch stuck so had to have it worked on. airplane sure is being finicky on this trip.

The slim chance of flying to Gaston's is now officially 0.

The plane will depart the hanger tomorrow for the avionics shop for auto pilot installation.:)

Interesting, mine just came out of the shop with a new a/p last night...

Weather is being difficult. We're weighing all our options. Hopefully we can figure out a way to make it Thursday. I'll know more when the TAFs come out tonight.

Taxi south of the front, then fly. :)

Ugh I hope the next TAF is better than this Crap....

At least the trend is improving.

I'll be in Bonanza 7892R, arrive tomorrow afternoon some time.

I hope.

Things are looking a little better. I could have slipped out tonight pretty easily but decided to wait until early AM. TAFs are claiming 5000 ft. We'll see.

I'm going to be working right next door in kentucky the next two days, so I'm going to fly there in hopes of stopping by Gaston's on the way home. If the locomotives cooperate I could get out of there Sat AM.

will anyone have their homemade artic-air unit with them ? After reading those threads the last couple years I'd sure like to see some of the finished products.

Jeff, that would be great if you could make it!!! Be sure to introduce yourself.

According to tomorrow afternoon's winds aloft forecast when I checked, headwinds for that route appeared to be in the 40-60 knot category. :hairraise:

Well, the current weather is looking like I should be able to take off tomorow and make the trip. Today is a definite no-go, so I'm going to spend the time doing productive things... like going and looking at motorcycles at the Yamaha dealer.

While the thought had crossed my mind about buying a motorcycle today and then riding it down tomorrow, having two 1100 mile days on a motorcycle in a 3 day weekend is not my definition of "fun."

Got 2 hours of actual IMC yesterday, though, so there's an upside to this present weather! :)

Please respect the T-storms. They brought down a TBM Tuesday, on departure from IOW.

Planning on leaving 1C5 at about 1530Z, will be stopping at SIK for lunch around 1800Z or so, if anyone cares to join us.. planning on VFR at this point, that may change..

We were planning on leaving this afternoon from KFAR, but it sure doesn't look good. That front is mean! We may or may not make it.

My instructor just called me from my first stop, and he said the weather is good and to come on out.

I'm outta here!

See you guys here tonight or tomorrow! :D

Oh, by the way, you should be able to see me on flight following:

peoria to western kentucky this morning, 48kt wind right on the nose. Altitude didn't matter.

We may take you up on that. Due to a series of circumstances it looks highly probable that we will be driving. Our trip will take us through Sikeston. I'll know more this evening.

It's not looking good for me. The AOPA flight planner has a 3:30 trip taking close to 8.5 hrs due to the winds aloft. That's without fuel stops.

I have everything ready to go (Banana bread & fly rods) so now I just have to hope the forcasted winds change between now and tomorrow at noon. Not too likely but I'll still make my go/no-go tomorrow.

I might have a cabin someone can use Friday night.

Well, so much for that idea. The plane's packed, ready to go... and then the weather (ceilings/visibility) go back to crap. Looks like if there was a hole in the clouds you could get above them, but whatever, now I'm sitting at home on my couch annoyed at the weather, so I'm just going to have a glass of wine (no, not from the case that's destined for Gaston's) and hope that tomorrow is better...

Dave and Spike look like they're just about in a race for the finish, but Spike should get there first, with Kaye/Tony pretty soon to follow.

Rick says "If your not flying get back to work! There's lots to do here!"

All three planes seem to have arrived safely at this time.

Looks like we'll be departing IFR on the first leg for sure. The remaining two will be either IFR or VFR depending on the weather. 'Should be able to find us on FlightAware bright and early.

Well, several things have come up and Tom and I won't be there till tomorrow.

BTW, here's our latest METAR:

051953Z 18022G36KT 10SM FEW047 SCT055 31/21 A2960 RMK AO2 PK WND 19051/1854

It would be hard to taxi around in a taildragger here with peak gusts up to 51 KTS.

If any of you who are down there see Tristan, please have her call me. Thanks.
