Sent the wife packing last Friday...

She does not know it, but I plan on flying to LAX (commercial, dang it) to surprise her.

I really hope all flights go as scheduled this time.

Knowing your luck, her flight will get diverted to San Francisco.....o_O

My next question is, should I clean the house for her or should I clutter it up a little and leave dirty dishes in the sink.

When she first came here she was convinced that I ate meals while standing while over the sink....

I always try to make sure the house is clean before my wife gets home from travel.

I have 3 kids so I fail at this, but I at least make an effort.

I’d at least wash the sheets and dispose of any ladies underwear that isn’t hers.

I long ago disabused Mrs. Steingar that the house will be any cleaner/neater/shinier/anythinger upon her arrival from travel. Usually having the dog home and breathing works out fine.

I always tried to make sure the house was in the same condition as when she left.

Now that we both work, we pay someone to clean the house. I still do yardwork, though, I'm not going to be one of those guys.

Dirty, you don’t want to spoil her too early in the marriage. Maybe after 50 yrs or so you can put your plate in the sink or something.

The fun continues....

Working on getting my wife checked in for her return flight from Tacloban to Manila to Los Angeles.

She goes to the airport. Less than 24 hours until her flight. They tell her she can't check in yet.... Come back tomorrow, tomorrow, no problem.

She calls me. I get online and I check her in and change her seats to aisle seats in front of the wing where she likes to ride. I have the boarding passes sent to her email address. Internet is sketchy there. I tell her to go back to the counter and ask for her boarding passes.

No, not until tomorrow, tomorrow, no problem. She calls me. I tell her to tell them to get off their fat lazy seat and push the button that says print. She says as I requested that but not as I worded it. No, not until tomorrow, tomorrow no problem.

I tell her to hand him the phone. I tell the guy to get off his lazy seat and look up her confirmation number and hit print. No, not until tomorrow, tomorrow no problem. I say yes problem because her flight leaves at 0635 and I don't want her to have to depend on some lazy SOB that doesn't want to work.

Tomorrow no problem, no problem. I say yes, tomorrow problem. Get up and look at that screen in front of you and get it done, and if you don't there won't be any tomorrow for you because you will be fired.!!

I will be fired.??

Yes.

But it is against our policy to print boarding pass before the day of the flight.

Get out your policy book and show that to my wife.

We do not have a policy book.

Then you will be fired.

My wife comes back on her phone. Husband, you scared the guy here. Good. Ok, he just handed me my boarding passes.

I am not going to be able to sleep until she is in Los Angeles....

Nobody else says their wife would have to tough it out alone? I'm the only ***hole?

My wife really wanted to go to some furniture thing in Dallas over a weekend. I did not want to go so she got her mother and brother to go with her. I bought the tix with airline points and said have fun. They got seriously delayed on the way out there missing one of two nights of events. Their flights home were cancelled by a snowstorm. I had to get them a flight into Atlanta and rent them a car to drive home from ATL in the snow.

They had quite a ordeal and I felt sorry for them, but I couldn’t help making a point. THIS IS why I never want to fly anywhere on Vacation (commercial). I’m good driving 3 hours to the beach, thanks.

I am typing this at sitting on the ramp in an American A319 that I boarded 2 hours ago.

Yep, I give my wife a look when she starts complaining about something like your family went through. It's equal parts "oh, I'm so sorry the happened to you" and "I called it!". She's figuring it out, too, cause she'll snap at me and say, "quit giving me that look." It only took her 9 years to figure out what that look meant.

She is home, but still without drama.

She checked in for her flight from Tacloban to Manila and they told her that her flight from Manila to LAX had been moved up 4 hours. So she would arrive in Manila about 30 minutes before the flight to LAX departs. Turns out, that person was wrong. The flight to LAX was scheduled to leave as scheduled. Still, I had to call and make threats to everyone that the airline WILL take her and escort her to the international terminal and through security. Which they did.

On Monday I drove to Phoenix, driving through the ever fantastic scenery of the rim country. On Tuesday I got up at 4am to get to the airport and fly to LAX. I made it there 25 minutes before my wifes plane was scheduled to land. I took the shuttle to the international terminal, which due to construction the shuttle dropped us off about halfway there with instructions to walk. Not a problem.

I saw on the big board that her plane had landed. And about 20 minutes later that was updated to show as arrived. I waited, and I waited, and about an hour later I saw her walking towards the exit.

I never told her I was going to meet her in LAX. She finally saw me and her jaw just dropped.... Objective completed, total surprise.!!

We choose the fastest mode of transportation back to the domestic terminal....walking. Again through security, packed into a Southwest 737 that actually had female flight attendants and one was actually under 30 years of age.!! A little delay in departure due to some luggage that was late in arriving. Funny, I never saw a baggage handler from the time the announcement was made to the time we actually pushed back.

Back in Phoenix, 115 degrees. Again, why on earth does anyone live there.?? But I digress, I used to live in Fairbanks and saw temps in the -60s in winter. A quick shuttle ride back to the hotel and into the car. Fortunately I had found an area that would be shaded when we returned so the inside of the car was only about 397 degreees instead of being hot....

Only a 4.5 hour drive to get home. Again through the fantastically wonderful scenery of the rim country. One stop in Payson to eat. As we waited for our food we tried to think of the last time each of us had a meal. My wife had two meals and breakfast on the flight, I only had a couple bananas at the hotel that morning, so stopping at a Mexican food restaurant that looked strangely like it used to be a Wendy's was a good stop. We were surprised that the food, ordered by the number, was really good. We both enjoyed it, plus we laughed about when my wife first saw ''orange'' rice.

Tummies full and energy restored, we made the last 3 hours of the drive and arrived home around 11:30pm. The cat was really happy to see us. She just ran around the house, running up to us for loving, then run some more. Kitty cat found the luggage, stopped and sniffed if for almost 30 minutes. Must have been some really good smells there.

As we sat there to relax and unwind, we talked about how long of a trip it was. I had been up for a little over 18.5 hours, but my poor wife had been up almost 35 hours, with just a couple hours of nap time on the plane. She fell asleep as we were sitting on the couch. I picked her up and put her in bed, turned off the lights and laid down. A few minutes later kitty cat jumped up, sniffed us both, then took her usual place on the bed.

Everything is back to normal.
