Pushback oopsie

How far forward might that damage go?
Can it get, for example, the fuselage bulkheads? Can it twist the aft fuselage?
Or is it usually limited to the parts seen externally?

If that were an Experimental, we'd just pop-rivet a panel on there and call it good.

ATL had a KLM 747 and another 747 (forget the airline) push back at the same time tail to tail. Similar to OP's picture, crunch. Delta rampers pushed them back so DAL repaired it. KLM 747 was at the jet base at ATL for weeks if not months.

Here is a video of the incident that shows the German plane being pulled away from the Israeli one. Holy smokes!!

Two thoughts from someone who has pushed & towed countless aircraft.

Where were the wing walkers? I would have never pushed back without them if there was even a remote possibility of hitting something, especially another plane.

How fast was it going? I have been witness to a couple of minor smashups and they occurred at a relatively slow pace and the damage was far less. The only one that I ever saw that had that much damage was when one aircraft was taxiing. If there are planes or other objects that could be ran into, the push is usually at a snails pace.

Ground crew likes Bonanzas.they were trying to remove the offending vertical fin...

Someone wasn’t paying attention, probably on their I phone texting.

I'm kind of surprised they offloaded the pax. Wouldn't that shift the relative vertical positions of the planes possibly causing more damage?

I don't think so. From my casual observation on commercial flights all the shzt passengers stuff into the overhead bins outweighs them at least 10:1 ;)

I hope everyone was wearing the appropriate T shirt.....

Model glue will fix that .... every time my rubber band plane crashed inverted the tail looked similar:confused:;)
