Pirep: McDonald's Filet o Fish Sandwich (or, salad, rather)

Attempt number 2 at Chick A fil A...

Ended up like this. Pretend it's a stack of chicken nuggets, sort of like @SixPapaCharlie 's Bonanza and Mooney.

You really should try not to eat so much fast food. It really isn't terribly good for you.

If I cooked the same hamburger at home, it would still have the same nutritional content.

Actually, it could be quite a bit different. Restaurants load their food with fat and salt to make it more palatable. I load my food with spices, which makes it plenty palatable but far healthier.

While I agree with you in general, I do believe it is possible to eat fairly healthy at most fast food restaurants, if you avoid the fried greasy stuff (yeah I know, burgers.)

The number of "healthy" foods at fast food restaurants is vanishingly low. Salads are a good example. They're usually drenched din high fat dressings, again to make them more palatable. The best way to eat is to learn to cook. That way you know exactly what's going into your food.

I've pretty much resigned, mostly due to the ingredient list I posted earlier, that Chick A fil A is not my venue.

I'm a decent cook, but the stuff I like to cook you would mostly deem unhealthy. As an example, I just turned three pounds of ground beef in to eight hamburgers, then drenched them in Worcestershire sauce. Lots of salt. I'm not a salt freak per se but I don't turn it down either. They are going on the BBQ in about an hour.

I'm intrigued by appetizing pure vegetarian dishes. I guess years, maybe generations of conditioning accustomed me to have something containing animal protein and fats, to make things complete. Beans, while a staple in many vegetarian diets, are a no go to me. I lack enzymes required to process them and if/when I eat them, I have severe stomach pain for a couple days. Most people just fart. I double over in pain.

But fish, I love fish, is that a happy medium? Low fat, beneficial oils, high protein, super yummy...

If I’d been born 100 years earlier, I’d probably live half as long as I already have. So I eat what I like and don’t give a s*** if it isn’t the most healthy choice:D.

Cheers

Actually none of the big chain fast food places drench the salads in anything. The dressing is in packets on the side. The consumer can choose to use them or not.

I like me a good slab of grilled salmon.

Love me some fishes! I eat salmon probably twice a week, and fired catfish. Tilapia occasionally. When sonny boy goes deep sea fishing in the Gulf he brings me grouper and amberjack. Delicious off the grill.

Make that four of us! Just grilled a salmon filet at the house last night. Olive oil, Garlic and Basil Pesto..Mmmmm. Paired it all with a sweet potato and I could’ve died happy.

Salmon fish is great on the grill. I like to cook filets, skin side down. It's easy to overcook though, if you aren't careful.

Same here. I used to be more meticulous and cut the skin off before grilling and then I realized how backwards that was. I always cook it until the color turns opaque and it flakes apart. Usually 15 or so minutes is sufficient for a 0.5lb filet.

What about salmon marsupial? It’s tough to get but really tasty.

I don't like it fully opaque. I usually go for 5-10 minutes unless I'm cooking for spoil sports that like their salmon overcooked. Then again I eat the stuff raw, too.

I don't do Salmon. When I was a kid my mom liked (loved) Salmon patties. I hated them then and still do. OTOH, tomorrow I am going to my favorite restaurant for a salad, fries, and a couple or three deep fried Cod fillets. Can't wait till Friday. I want some Cod NOW!

Mom had two spices in her cupboard; salt and pepper. She was not the best in the kitchen.

Damn the cholesterol. I'm going to die with a full stomach. LOL.

Would you settle for a seahorse or a sea monkey?

Those eat penises too? (must summon @SixPapaCharlie for this discussion)

I've had the salmon patties. They are so-so. I like them better than turkey burgers. I never understood the point of turkey burgers. Love cod fish though.

I think that none of them eat penis. Perhaps sixpoppated knows fer sure.

Have you tried the cod marsupial?

I don't have a taste for marsupials. I've had Kangaroo before. It tastes like a big overgrown rat. Well, okay, it is a big overgrown rat. Plus cod is a cold water fish, incompatible for marsiupialism.

Frankenstein never scared me. Marsupials do. Because they're fast, they dart!

Sac,

I've never been a big fan of Turkey. One leg on Thanksgiving day is enough to hold me till next year. I once, and only once, bought a package of Turkey Bacon. Half of it wound up in the garbage.

Those pouches are kinky. Don't knock it before you try it.

I like turkey itself just fine - freshly roasted. But the stuff that is processed to mimic something that came from a four legged animal is just nasty to me.

Speaking of salmon patties, last night for dinner someone that it would be a great idea to put broccoli and salmon in a blender then form it in to balls and bake it. There are leftovers. Leftovers here are rare.

Sac,

I like Broccoli but the salmon or turkey part would rot in the fridge. LOL.

Carb overload tonight. Well worth it!

Wasn’t bad. Wasn’t good either. But it was food. Kinda. Well, whatever. It’s in my belly now.
