Anyone else following the young pilot in the FB groups? PPL to 777 in 3 months?

That was a full on train wreck.
I have never seen anything like it. 3 days of ADHD, Bi-Polor posting.
Given a lot of his posts, I believe he committed career suicide if he really did have intentions of flying big iron.

Agreed! It's like watching a train wreck--I can't stop!

Frankly buying any airplane brand new never makes business sense, initial depreciation is insane. You can usually get close to the same aircraft for half the price used...

Frankly lecturing people that have enough money to actually buy a new airplane because it is a bad financial decision makes no sense. Clearly they know how to work their money or they wouldn't be ordering new airplanes.

Except that isn't true. There was an interesting book way back. The true millionaire American it turns out didn't have a leased Mercedes in the driveway working nearly paycheck to paycheck. The millionaire's favorite car back then was a Jeep Grand Cherokee. Plenty of people get themselves in trouble with debt.

The book was "The Millionaire Next Door"

I'm not lecturing anyone, but especially in airplanes, new rarely makes financial sense. And for someone who claims his entire income is as a tutor, and claims he doesn't have money to burn, and supposedly has an Econ degree, it makes you scratch your head.

I'm glad he finally deleted his account. All of the aviation related Facebook groups I'm in were getting over-taken with his crazy.

That guy was so full of hot air and ******** he could have been the next POTUS. It ended spectacularly with the most epic meltdown I have ever seen on the Internet.

PS - he never had a PPL. Believe none of what you hear, and only half of what you see.

Before you believe he didn't have his PPL, do know that the FAA certificate database does have a few week lag and he only posted having gotten his PPL a couple weeks ago... Not saying anything otherwise!

Just an FYI, when this guy surfaced I was a 16 year old student pilot living in Texas with my parents....in the time it took my to move to nebraska for a year, fly in alaska for 2.5 years, and then move back to the lower 48 he received his (alleged) PPL. If he truly was financially gifted, I would imagine he would have had his PPL by now. Maybe he does have really deep pockets, and in that case he's probably a **** pilot.

So this guy was out there back in the days before you had that Wisconsin shaped (sized) bald spot? Man time sure flies!

P.S. you bringing that PC-12 to 6Y9?

Yeah....he's been around for a long time, apparently just recently went off the deep end. I was (at one point) Facebook friends with him, but the constant pictures of him wearing a monkey suit while flying internationally first class made me cringe so hard I had to delete him.

PS - I would love to bring the PC12 to 6Y9. Just gotta convince the boss.

I have some student/pilot friends. a few of them follow random people on twitter and FB or wherever. occasionally they'll ask me something like "oh, did you see that xc so-and-so took?" or "did you hear so-and-so got his instrument rating?'. now keep in mind, neither I nor my friends know these people. now I know we are supposed to support each other, but why do I really care about some random dude across the country who just did his long solo xc? great, good for you, who cares??!!? well, this kind of reminds me of that, but this guy oozes dooshbaggery. so REALLY, why do I care about this guy?

Am I following this kid? Of course not! Like I give a damn about some stupid kid with too much money and not enough sense.

Fine, see if I share any of my xc stories with YOU again!

lol NOOOOOooo..........I'm talking about completely random people on the internet that I don't know...........oh.............wait...........um............uh................I'm gonna go read your article again.

what I mean is, you know what I mean............"someone who's on twitter". wtf do I care? now PoA peeps............that's a different story altogether

I can offer you a shovel to dig yourself out of this hole you seem to have gotten yourself into.. right after I whop ya on the back of head with it first!
;)

ok I'm also following you on twitter now.

My Twitter account lasted almost as long as my Instagram account, which only lasted about 5 minutes longer than the one hour or so I tried to figure out the point of Snapchat.

I never could figure out instagram, hmm, so this app lets me post a small low res picture, and see other small, low res pictures, moving on....

Pretty much photos of people's junk while they have that idiotic dogface filter on their face.

:D

I doubt anyone who is buying themselves a 777 type rating cares about financial sense. So what? The only thing I have against these kinds of people is that they seem like attention whores.

Man, I wish I was wrong on this....

The first thought I had was that all the random grandiose rapidly changing plans sure sound like a manic phase....

But I don't know many (any?) people with so much money to burn that new airplanes don't matter. Lotsa doubt there on my part.

It's very unpleasant to witness something like this, even from a distance. Ouch.

FWIW, his career was already over. He just finished it off. Untreated bipolar disorder eventually does exactly what you saw, but it's detectable much earlier.

This^.
Everyone these days seems to think that everyone else gives a flying **** about every little detail of their lives that they have to post on an Internet site.
"Oh wow, bob and Lucy had tacos for lunch today with a raspberry iced tea!"
"Bob just posted on his facetwitersnap page another picture with a witty caption"

I wonder what this wealthy child did to occupy his mind and wow his facetwitersnap followers before he decided to fly fancy planes?

Am I the only one that thought of Ol' KennyFlys when they saw that Kid's name?

MLOD 4 Ever!

:D

Given the bipolar meltdown he just had, I really, really doubt a 777 type rating was ever truly in his future.

Bipolars often make plans well beyond sense or their means to accomplish. It's quite likely every last detail was severely embellished.

If you look at some of the posts he made (public!), you'll find he claims landings when he doesn't touch the controls, and bragged about a "letter from NASA" (i.e., he filed an ASRS). This is entirely normal for a bipolar on his "up" phase, as is the subsequent drama when he went "down."

It's quite sad. His condition may be treated with medication -- and it appears he's reached the point where he will reach out -- and he will live a more or less normal life when the disorder is under control. But his SI is going to be really painful.

And Facebook is forever. Ouch, that's gonna hurt.

What are the minimums he would have to meet legally to fly a 777 for Fedex? He doesn't need an ATP, right? Is it 1200 hours?

For everybody's sake let's hope so. Jesus he's like a male PP. :D

Ha... I had the exact same thought when I was watching his trainwreck over the last few days. The more the guy got called out, the more posts/threads he started about how amazing he is. Sounded just our "Princess." Maybe he's the long lost pilot soul mate she wrote about that one time ;)

@mscard88 Haters gonna hate, but I got nothing against PBR.

Since he didn't post those things here, I don't know what you are talking about. I don't follow the FB groups previously mentioned. I was replying to the post on "financial sense" which I think is generally of no concern to anyone except the person involved and maybe his or her family. I think we tend to criticize people here who might not make the same financial decisions as we would ourselves.

  • Commercial Pilot Certificate with Multi-engine and Instrument rating without limitations
  • ATP Certificate
  • Must pass FAA mandated drug screen
  • Must have 20/20 correctable vision
  • Recency and type of experience is considered
  • Meet requirements for and currently hold First Class Medical certification
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university
  • Eligibility for rapid visa issuance, issued by offices in the United States to fly to any FedEx destination.
  • Candidates for jobs involving handling or access to U.S. mail cannot be considered for employment if they have resided outside the U.S., Guam or Puerto Rico for more than (6) six months during the last (5) years prior to today's date, other than the following verifiable exceptions: active duty in the U.S. Uniformed Service; trailing spouse or dependent of someone working for the U.S. government (military or civilian); missionary; student attending school in a foreign country; Peace Corps participant; employee of a U.S. based employer/company or other extraordinary circumstances.
  • Eligibility for issuance of US Security Clearance
  • 1500 hours total fixed-wing time as pilot-in-command (PIC) or second-in-command in multi-engine turbo-prop A/C or jet A/C or combination thereof (GTOW 12,500). A minimum of 1000 hours total fixed-wing pilot-in-command in multi-engine turbo prop A/C or jet A/C or combination thereof (GTOW 12,500 or greater) is preferred. Note: PIC for this purpose is defined as Captain/Aircraft Commander of record, not simply the sole manipulator of the controls. Note: FedEx considers only pilot time in fixed wing aircraft toward minimum qualifications. This does not include simulator, helicopter, flight engineer, bombardier, navigator, RIO, EWO, WSO, NFO, or Special Crew.
  • All certificates and ratings required to be U.S.A. FAA issued
(emphasis mine)

Note: These are the minimum requirements to put an application in. Competitive qualifications are much higher.

Who said he was going to fly for FedEx? He would need to be hired first, not just throw a bunch of money their way.

Cant anyone get a type rating if they have enough pocket change? I'm sure CAE would gladly train you :)
They sure will. They look at you funny when you show up to training and ask who you work for and you say nobody. They never asked where I got the $51,000 for the type rating though.

I understood those to be Fedex's requirement. That's why I used the word 'legally' in my question. I think that's 1,200 hours.

No one. No one said he wasn't either. So I was trying to remember what the shortest realistic path might be for him.
