The worst, Bob Dylan, 2012. The saving grace was John Mellencamp as the opening act.

Johnny Cash in 1975. Great concert. Classic guy.

I've been to only two others since. Leann Rimes, and Sara Evans/Brad Paisley at the state fair. Both were because I was given free tickets. There's no way in hell I'm paying $75-$100+ per ticket for anyone with their clothes still on.

Really, the only people I'd like to see are Billy Joel, James Taylor and Jimmy Buffet. I'm just not into music the way I was in my youth.

The first concert I went to on my own:

1977 KSHE's Valentines Day Massacre. KSHE held this concert held every year w/ three "up and coming bands".

1977 Was Robin Trower, Lake & Prism. I saw Springsteen later in the year.

1978 VDM was Eddie Money, Doucette & Meatloaf.

Best concert (or close to it) was Harry Chapin in 1977.
 
Ozzy Osbourne - 12/31/1981 - LA Sports Arena. Three months later Randy Rhoads died in a '57 H35 Bonanza :(
 
Strangest - Iggy Pop in a very small venue.
 
Favorite: Hall & Oates in Philly a month ago
 
I remember Queen and the Ozark Mountain Daredevils.

As far as earliest concert -- I really can't remember. I'm sure there were some real classics when I was a kid.

1982: Steel Breeze (early MTV one hit wonders) in Petaluma. They were such one hit wonders that they played their one hit (You Don't Want Me Anymore) two times!

And my rule makes sense. The point is to see what bands people chose to spend their money on to go see-- in other words, what is their taste in music. With a festival, it's like, "**** it, I don't have to make a decision. Somethin's bound to be good."

Well... I didn't spend money because we didn't have any when I was a kid, but I went to a lot of concerts in Prospect Park in Brooklyn and Central Park in Manhattan from when I was a kid until when I moved out of The City.

I remember especially enjoying Pete and Arlo the first time, but I don't remember which venue or year it was. I attended quite a few great concerts in the parks over the years.

We do okay up here, though. Proctors in Schenectady gets some great artists in every conceivable genre. There also are plenty of outdoor concerts during the tourist season, most of them free or by voluntary contribution. And then there's Bethel Woods, of course. Journey and the Doobie Brothers will be there in January.

I don't know about that. Dylan is a pretty awesome story teller. The difference being that Harry can actually sing!

Three of my older brothers saw the Beatles at Busch Stadium in 1966. Story goes that they tried and tried to talk mom into letting me join them. I was 6. She didn't say no, she said hell no!

Apparently they didn't hear anything the Beatles played...far too many young girls screaming to be able hear anything else.

The The (Matt Johnson + Johnny Marr and others) opened, it was fabulous. But I've loved Matt Johnson since the Soul Mining days...

The PA systems weren't as capable then. Now they can overpower any screaming girls.
 
Tim might remember the Ozark Music Festival in Sedalia, MO in 1974. That was a couple years before I moved to the area, so I missed hearing about it.
