Hey folks! My name is Max. Without going into too much detail I'd like to get some advice. I am a single father. Veteran. My daughter is 3 years from graduating high school and I am making a 3 year plan. I will be using my GI Bill to get a pilot's licenses. From what I understand the initial cost are on me but my GI Bill will cover 100% thereafter minus instructor and rental cost which I will use my housing allowance to pay for since I will still be working.

I am 34 years old and after having managed to raise my daughter alone in a very good school district (I am not rich) and her college paid for I am thinking of my future now. I love flying. I want to do this for a living. I don't need to make a lot of money. I just want to fly to make enough to keep flying.

Where do you guys meet up?
What are some do's and don'ts?
How can I spend efficiently to get these licenses?
Is there anything I should be aware of or prepare for?

I could use as much advice as anyone has to offer. Thx

Since you didn't mention helo or airplane, I assume you want the airplane route??? Wouldn't recommend helo anyway. There's a bottleneck of 300-500 hr pilots looking for work.

Find a Part 141 college program...that hasn't been cut off by the VA yet. They pay 100 %. Get your AS degree and all ratings in 2 yrs. Stay on as a 300 hour CFI to build time. After a couple years, go Part 135 cargo (Alaska) to build more time. Apply for Regionals after 1,500 hrs with your ATP. Done.

Once you start hanging around the airport you'll meet all sorts of pilots, once you get your first job you'll meet even more folks in the industry.

You know you're not going to get 1k hours in 80 days, and after your CPL you'll need to work to build hours up.

I'd stay out of the regionals I you want any type of QOL or like being home ever.

Build your hours up, network, try to find a nice corporate gig or speciality service, with your military background maybe take some AAJ courses and try to get a game warden pilot job or something.

Welcome to the forum,go part 141 for your ratings. Then you can look for a local part 135 charter company and start to build time. Every airport has a place where the airport bums hang out ,ask around.

I think 1,080 days was a reference to his 3-yr plan, not 1,000 hours in 80 days. It was a bit odd to read.
