YouTube Challenge - I Gave My Kids a Terrible Present

What a bunch of SPOILED brats:mad2::mad2:........ I can assure you guys/gals.. My generation would have been beat and sent to bed without dinner...:yesnod:.

And that kid in the end would have had a full bar of soap shoved down his throat. :yesnod::):)

This batch of kids are downright scary.... IMHO.

Ben.

Yup, some weird kids there... me, I would have loved to get a real hammer for Xmas when I was that age. :D

I like the little girl with the sandwich! "I like when you make lasagna, not a sandwich! And why would you bite it?"

I'm sorry but I really don't understand what's so funny about it....

Kids live in a different world - try to remember what Christmas felt like when you were 6 years old...we used to dream about the presents we were going to get for months in advance....it really filled us with anticipation and excitement.

Parents who actually pull that kind of "joke" on their innocent children and enjoy watching their disappointment are jerks in my humble opinion....

Children DO NOT understand black or cynical humor.

Kids expect decent presents for Christmas - that doesn't make them "spoiled brats"

Hmmm..

Just sit tight.. Those self centered "brats" will be running this country in 30 years.:yikes::eek:

When I was a kid we were taught to respect adults and be thankful for everything we got..... I can assure you. If I was 6 and said I would "bite your balls" I would still be black and blue from the beating by my parents. IMHO......

Spoken like a good parent. I don't see the humor in it either. The joke on them is slightly less that child exploitation at minimum and overstated child abuse at the maximum. Kids live in a different world and need protecting.

Yes...some of the kids in that video used questionable language when they unwrapped their "present" - I think that can be linked to bad education...it's not a "sign of the times"....it's probably their parents fault.

And I don't think that the "self-centered" kids will be running the country in a worse manner than the self-centered morons run the country today....

the kids are reacting poorly....isn't that the point? Regardless "TELL HIM TO SUCK MY BALLS!" will get my son (to be...4 months) spanked or whatever punishment im still allowed to give.

I don't think anyone would expect (now, or when we walked uphills both ways in the snow) a child to say "wow, thanks for the awesome half eaten sandwich). Claiming otherwise is disingenuous at best.

The bigger problem I see here is foolish parents who are watching too much TV and doing wrong things to their children for 30 seconds of their children's fame. With parents having that badly misplaced priorities, why do we expect more of the children?
Also, where do you think that one kid got such a foul mouth unless he either learned it elsewhere and his parents didn't correct him, or he learned it from them at home...

Ryan

That last kid needs to be smacked into next week. The others were acting about how I'd expect - build up the excitement, then pull the rug out from under them. A couple did seem to at least try to show some appreciation. And a few seemed to catch on to the joke, too.

The two kids who need beatings are the "suck my balls" kid and the one in the red striped shirt. It seems those kids in general are used to getting what they want. When I was in nursery school, we had to sing the song "You can't always get what you want..." all the time. Good lesson.

I think it's a mean trick to play in general, though, and wouldn't do that to my kids. I don't dangle a treat in front of the dogs and then put it back in the jar.

Wow - you went to a cool nursery school and got to sing along to the Stones. I had to learn "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star".

We learned that one, too. But learning that you can't always get what you want (but sometimes get what you need instead) is a good lesson. More kids should sing along to that.

It took a long time - but I eventually broke the habit of my kids saying, "That's not fair!".

Looking back now, it really is cliche to always follow that up with "Nobody said life is fair.", but that was my automatic response. Something must have sunk in, they've grown up pretty well. It's a hard lesson to learn when you finally realize that bad things happen to good people.

Funny and sad at the same time. Not all of the kids handled it badly. The one girl tried to eat the banana! :) Loved the boys that said "I'm NOT a GIRL!" (pony, girls' activity book with stickers)

that explains Ted's haircut...

My mom has always been quick to point out everything about me that's not to her liking, especially my hair. She also always gave me terrible presents. :D

Bet they didn't learn the rest of the lyrics!

Well, we're talking about a decent number of years ago (except for Wayne), and I can barely remember what I did yesterday. My recollection was that it was part of a compilation of sing-alongs that we ended up doing at the end of the year for parents. I seriously doubt we learned the rest of the lyrics, just the important ones. ;)

Well, since Time Magazine named "The Protester" as the Person of the Year, I think the important lyrics are:

"And I went down to the demonstration
To get my fair share of abuse
Singing, "We're gonna vent our frustration
If we don't we're gonna blow a 50-amp fuse"
Sing it to me now..."

That WOULD sound good coming from a bunch of 4-5yr olds!

Yeah, a joke lasting 5 minutes, 3 weeks before Christmas, will scar them for life. Meanwhile, it is perfectly ethical to lie to and deceive your kids into believing the Santa charade for 10 years.

Check and mate. :D
In all fairness, though, kids are bombarded with the myth, and most parents just play along.
My parents (probably just my Mom) came up with a smart compromise: after we discovered the truth (heard them arguing one Xmas Eve while humping stuff up from the basement), there was still always something under the tree "from Santa". We didn't really buy it, but it took the edge off the loss of innocence.

It wasn't much of a shock in the first place... I'd suspected for some time that something was fishy about the whole thing. I recall asking my old man how Santa could come in via the chimney, when it was merely a duct leading to the furnace. He quickly replied that St. Nick had a key to the front door. :D

I wanted to know why Santa had the same handwriting as my dad...

I told my kids that instead of cookies, they should leave Santa some BBQ and beer. I think they might have started to wonder...

We (all three generations, and the 'kids' are in their 30s) are perfectly happy to empty stockings filled by Santa Christmas morning. :D Even if we watched each other fill them. :D :D

I wanted to know why Santa and my relatives gave me stuff every year, but mom never did. She never thought of that. :)

I saved up a couple years ago and got my mom a nikon camera, but I also bought a barbie camera, took the nikon out of the box, and put the barbie camera in there, then wrapped it up. She was really excited until she opened it, but I gave her the nikon pretty much right after.

Last year she put an etch a sketch in an iPad box and didn't give me the iPad until the day after. I was really confused that afternoon.

Turnabout is fair play. :)

What about the "Surprise, we're going to Disney World" videos. That's a cruel joke on the kids when they thought they were going to Chattanooga.

I think the kid in the striped shirt at Christmas is in this Halloween one, too; he's punching the doorway in this one. Kid's gonna need therapy, or end up in jail...

The fact that his parents let him get away with that is insane.

Next, we'll film people getting layoff notices. That will be awesome!

(I don't get the humor either. Yes, the kid gifted the hello kitty shirt needs to gain some perspective; however, this method seems counter productive)
